Did anyone do a Hair and Makeup Trial before destination wedding?

Vandekerklove31717, on December 16, 2016 at 8:00 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Hi everyone, as you know from most of my posts or comments I am having a DW in March. I was planning to have a hair and make up trial with my home stylist before going. My wedding package includes my hair and makeup for my wedding. Well talking to my stylist we decided to not do the makeup because at the resort they will probably have airbrush and she doesn't, so it really wouldn't be the same, and then we started talking about hair and I got the feeling that she thought it was pointless to do a hair trial since the person at the resort would do it differently than her. Did anyone get a trial before their wedding or are did you just take a inspo pic to show? I just wanted to make sure it all looked good with my veil, but if it won't really be accurate of what to expect the day of I am tempted to just save the money. Any experience with this or opinions on what I should do? Thanks!

I'm having a DW wedding with airbrush makeup at the time of the wedding. I have never had airbrush so I am going to have a trial where I live to see if I like it. As for hair, mine is too short to put up so I'll just pin it back on the day of. I agree it might be a waste to to the hair trial. Good luck.

One thing. We moved to Florida and because of heat and humidity changes my fiancee had to change make up and hair products. What worked up north melted here. The local has experience doing wedding hair in that climate. Show her your dress and see what she comes up with. Enjoy

I am doing a trial - but the "destination" is only an hour flight from where I live so I will make a special trip for a trial with the Hair and Make-up girl who will be with me on the day (hopefully will get in a dress fitting on the same trip).

We have a weird situation though - I'm from the US, my FI is from the UK, we live in Switzerland and are getting married in London. So technically it's a destination wedding, since we don't live there and neither does his family, but it's a pretty quick trip from where we live.

We are toying with the idea of a DW, so this is something I've thought about. I may decide to pay for my stylist to travel with (if she is open to that) just so I can be completely confident.

I have done several destination weddings here in New York, without the benefit of a trial, and I found it useful to see pictures of the bride with different hairstyles and ideas about what they wanted before I made a decision as to what to do. Humidity plays a part of overall end result for the tropical and summertime, so trust the local stylist knows what they are doing, but show them examples of what you like for peace of mind.

I'm having a destination wedding in Australia and had a hair and make-up trials in my home town and will actually be having a trial there too.

Shanghai DW here. We will be heading out a week in a half before our wedding. My wedding planner suggested we do a make-up trail then. I may do a hair trial too.

Is it possible to arrive a few days earlier to have a make-up trial, especially if you are not use to air brush?

I will be there 5 days early, but prices are really high at the resort to just have a trial, which is why I thought of doing one early. I may just chance it, my sister went to beauty school, so if it comes out terrible I know she will be able to make me look decent.

I did this. I have very fine, thin hair that does not style well, and I had no idea what style would look good on me (#hairinsecurity). I found some pictures of styles I thought were pretty but could not imagine how they would suit me/my hair/my face/my veil... I lived abroad at the time so couldn't get a trial with the woman who did my hair on my wedding day, but I went to my BM's salon and had her stylist try a few looks on me so I could take pictures and get a better sense of what looked good on my hair and how it would hold up. It's an extra cost to consider, but personally I found it really useful!

ETA - I went into the trial knowing whatever styles we tried were not how they would look on the wedding day when done by someone else. I was mainly trying to gauge the overall look and shape, not the details.

I didn't consider my wedding a destination wedding, but I live in DC, got married in NC, and my hair and makeup team is based out of Richmond. I took a half day off work to have a trial done, and drove 2 and a half hours down to Richmond (then back) for it!

If you can't get to your venue in the next few months, or can't schedule a trial a day or two before the wedding, then I think it could be helpful to do a trial with someone else! Like @WWJo said, a lot of it is also about what your hair will do or hold!

DW in Arizona. I will not be doing a trial for either. I don't have a local stylist (recently moved, I don't even know where I'm getting a trim next week!). I've provided my stylist with many pictures though, and her portfolio was along the lines of the style I want, so I trust everything to turn out appropriately. Fingers crossed!

We had a DW up in Oregon (we are in FL). The day we landed I had a trial with my H/MUA. I am glad I did. We ended up tweaking what she did make up wise. The weather dictated needing an up do instead of down and curly (40 mph winds the day of)

I'm 8 hours away from our wedding place and have decided that I will just have to make a trip for a trial. I am super paranoid about people I'm not familiar with messing with my hair. I blame that botched haircut of my youth. Anyways, I'm going to take weekend trip just for the purpose of doing a trial run. Also I have a decorative clip piece for my hair so I think we will need to decide what to do prior to the morning of!
