Destination Weddings

Anyone else in this group planning a destination wedding? My fiance and I are planning our August 7th 2020 wedding in Portland Oregon. We currently live in Houston Texas. We have never been to Oregon but we have a trip planned for next month to go and scout out venues and possible vendors. We are having an intimate wedding with 15-25 people max in attendance. We aren't having a DJ and we don't anticipate hiring a coordinator or a florist. I am stressed to the max as can be expected lol. Our goal is to have the wedding and reception dinner for less than $5,000. What are you ladies doing for decor and florals if you're planning to make them yourselves? I don't want to pay some rental company or florist thousands of dollars for something I can do myself. My only concern is will I have enough time to get everything done before the wedding? We plan to arrive on Tuesday and our wedding is in Friday.

I live in CO and I’m getting married in NC, but I made all my decor in NC and left it with my parents. Otherwise I would have had to ship it. I am going to ship a few last minute things.

I'm thinking of making some things ahead of time here in Texas but we don't have family or friends in Oregon so im not even sure where we would have it shipped to.

I'm having an out-of-state wedding too (live in Chicago, getting married in Maryland). If you're staying in a hotel leading up to your wedding, you could call and ask if you can have a box shipped there ahead of your arrival. They might hold it for you? I honestly haven't figured out what I'm doing yet either 😓

We were planning to rent a VRBO but we may need to do a hotel. The whole destination theme seemed like a great idea at first but now I'm realizing just how complicated it is! Good luck on your planning!

We live in MD and we got married in FL on the gulf coast and I made my centerpieces. Pretty inexpensive and easy to make.

We actually drove because I had so much stuff with my dress and everything else but I got the candles and vases at IKEA so if there is one near your venue you could order them and pick them up.

Well hopefully since your wedding is pretty intimate with few moving parts, it should be manageable! Good luck to you too!

We are doing an out of state wedding. I have it all budgeted out to cost me about 6000 but im also not hiring any vendors. Ours will be in Myrtle Beach and we live in kentucky. We are also only having about 25 people coming to ours. And I plan to make most of the decor. Though we are doing a beach theme wedding on a beach so I am not doing to much decorating. I know me and my sister are going to be making a few hulu hoop chanderliers, and some center pieces for the table, but were mainly going to use the natural sceneary to decorate the event. Were all traveling down on a saturday getting there that night and are getting married on Wednesday. Were planning to take it all down with us, my parents and my sister are also driving to the destination so that they can help us bring things

Hey there! We are planning a destination wedding in North Carolina and we live in Minnesota (about 50-75 guests). It has been super fun planning for us but also we have a ton of time so not stressful yet. My advice would be to hire the vendors you want ASAP, and if you are diy-ing a lot that can take time. The decor and floral diy projects take a lot longer than anticipated, I have heard. Also, make a spreadsheet for all the things/vendors you need and your budget. This helped me a lot!

Thanks so much Izzy! I Originally wanted to hire a DJ, florist, and a wedding coordinator, but after researching the price is for all of these things in assessing the necessity we have made the decision to not hire any of those people. We hope to hire the venue when we go on our trip next month and then everything else besides catering we plan to take care of ourselves.

Your wedding sounds like it’s going to be amazing. My sister got married on Myrtle Beach two years ago and it was breathtaking.

I live in Fl and we’re doing a destination wedding in Cancun. I’m having similar challenges, I want to diy my centerpieces and decor to save on costs but the question is how will get everything there? Good luck to you hopefully once you secure your location you can ship there. We have to worry about customs so we’ll probably fly with everything.

Aw man! I hope you guys are able to get all of your things over to Cancun for the wedding. If wedding rentals Weren’t so expensive I would just hire someone to do all of the Decor. A lot of these coordinators charge $3000 and that doesn’t even include the actual cost of renting the decor items.

You have plenty of time. If you can arrive maybe 5days early. Def you can make it happen. I’m from Portland Oregon. It’s beautiful here.
