Destination Wedding

Jerrica, on November 9, 2019 at 9:12 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 10
I’ve been engaged since 10/4/19 and debated on how I wanted to tie the knot. I was back and forth for a while! We finally decided to do a destination wedding. I looked online at the Sandals resorts for like two weeks before deciding it may be a good idea. The night before I planned on booking and paying a deposit, I read over the reviews. The reviews for their resorts were terrible. I’m so heartbroken. I thought I had it figured out and ready was sooooooooo ready to book. Now I feel like I’m back at square one. We were about to book a Sandals resort in Jamaica. The reviews have steered me away. Does any know of any other good resorts in the Bahamas or US? TIA

I will say that I’ve been to a friend’s wedding at a Sandals in Jamaica and it was beautiful and fun.

I don’t have any specific recommendations for locations but I would say to make sure you think about a DW before jumping in. You have to think about all of the logistics of getting things there and if you are ok with no having personally seen the place. I did a DW in Florida and was able to visit and spend time with the people there before booking and I can tell you we had 2 car loads of stuff to get there. Just a few thoughts for you. Good luck.

I chose Sandals Resorts, we're getting married in South Coast Jamaica. I've been stalking Google and Trip Advisor since deciding to get married there and most of the reviews I've read are good. And most people return repeatedly. It was a back and forth with us to choose a venue sight unseen but I couldn't pass up the deal with a wedding and honeymoon in one. I would say dont book until you're sure. The process has been seamless and easy this far. Our wedding is in October 2020 but we've been planning since March of last year.

I know exactly how you feel! We want to do a dw too but planning and booking without seeing is terrifying to spend the money on such a important day. I was looking for somewhere where we could drive so we could load up cars of stuff vs flying with stuff. We are now thinking a quieter beach in one of the Carolinas, and hoping to visit them when we go on vacation this summer, and possibly push the wedding date farther into 2021.

Also think about whether you're okay with choosing location over people - you are very likely to have fewer people able to attend, including close friends and family (no matter how much of a heads up you give them).

I was looking into Secrets which has some locations in Mexico and Jamaica. If you can get to St. Lucia and will splurge Jade Mountain Resort is 5 star rated. And the good thing with most resorts if you choose to have a honeymoon there is they have wedding packages with a lot already included. Also, if you do a destination wedding are you planning that to be a honeymoon too? Do you want friends and family on your honeymoon? In regards to destination wedding no honeymoon I would do U.S. so it is easier to travel to. That's my suggestion but ultimately if you know you want an international scenery then go for it. Like mentioned earlier if you want a lot of people there, choose some place affordable like Miami, FL.

I am having a destination wedding in Tulum, Mexico. We are staying a week to make it a honeymoon/family vacation. When I was looking into all the destination I did alot of research and even joined facebook groups of those resorts to get more real reviews from brides.

I am having a destination wedding at sandals Montego Bay in Jamaica. I have only heard good things. But a few things to keep in mind when booking with sandals is it’s an all inclusive resort and if you stay 3 or more nights you get a free wedding but don’t be fooled the free wedding isn’t exactly free. I added on a good amount of extras because I felt like I needed/wanted. Photography which is expensive , a dinner, things like that.

I am getting married at Sandals Barbados and actually have visited 2 different Sandals Resorts in Jamaica and I loved it! The planning can be a little stressful because you are not there but I have read several reviews (there is a Facebook page for sandals weddings) and a lot of brides were completely satisfied.

I've heard both good and bad about Sandals, there's also Royalton in Jamaica you could check out as well! We're doing Now Sapphire in Playa Riviera. Good Luck on your decision!
