Destination Wedding RSVP Timeline

Sarah, on October 20, 2013 at 2:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 8

Happy Sunday!

Our wedding is April 26th and our final headcount is due 30 days prior. When should our RSVP date be for a destination wedding? From what I'm reading, many people are doing it 2-3 months in advance. That sounds like crazy talk to me. I was thinking more like 6 weeks before the wedding date. Am I way off base? Thoughts? Ideas? Rules? Help?!

So for mine, people need to be booked 2 months in advance, to be part of the travel group. I don't know when final headcount is due yet. I think 2-3 months is reasonable, because you're going to need to know who has booked and who is planning on booking last minute. If they haven't RSVP'ed and you need to call them to find out if they are planning to attend, chances are they are not coming. Especially if you're going out of the country.

Keep in mind they are hltimately reaponsible for their travel. Make sure they know ahead of time, but all you need is to know before the final headcount is due. So id say 6 weeks... which gives you 2 weeks to track down stragglers.

Hi. I am getting married in Tuscany Italy in May. I sent my save-the-dates in September and told my guests they had to get plane tickets by December 1 in order to be consider going. The reason why I put a strict deadline and sent so early because I am paying for my 25 American guests to stay in a exclusive villa for the week. They just have to be able to get there. His family who lives spread out through Italy about 50-75 will just be attending the ceremony and reception. I intend on sending them SVD next month. I decided to make my save the dates as magnet, so its something they will be sure to see routinely since I sent very early. The formal invites will be sent 6 weeks out.

    Where will your destination be?

We sent out our save the dates this summer. We have a huge guest list (174ppl) for our wedding in St. Maarten. Everyone was so happy to get the STD's early so they could start planning and requesting vacation time. We are thinking we will send invites out mid January and have RSVP 2 months prior to April 26th wedding date.

I thought 2 months out would be too far but the more I think about it, I think its reasonable. Everyone will be booked by then and I can start making welcome bags, etc.

We're destination in that 90% of guests are an ocean away so I set my RSVP date for about 2.5 months before the date (thanksgiving) and sent out the invites in september (5months before wedding)

Ooohhh St. Maarten how fun! I agree 2 months is very reasonable, 6-8 weeks is when I will send the formal invites too. Im not worried about the American guests because then they should have their plane tickets and they won't miss it, his family I am slightly concerned about the RSVPs as they don't all speak English and its not easy for us to just call and get a hold of them, between him and his mom... I will let them worry about it. Smiley smile

I am getting married in Mauritius in January and we have to give the final numbers by the beginning of December. Majority of the guests are my extended family from Mauritius so i've put the RSVP 2 weeks before that!

I guess if people are going to have to fly to your wedding then they would defintely know 2 months before the wedding
