Destination Wedding & Local Reception Invitation Wording

Kim, on September 20, 2015 at 12:03 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

My fiance and I are planning a destination wedding for the Fall of 2016. We put together our guest list but are fully aware that there are some family members and friends that will not be able to afford the trip. Because of this, on our save-the-dates, we'd like to include information about the destination wedding but also information about the local reception so they don't feel obligated or feel guilty about attending/not attending the destination part. Are there any save-the-dates that offer this type of template? Or does anyone have suggestions on the best etiquette? I appreciate anyone's feedback!!!! Thank you!

You could create a website here on wedding wire that will have that info and just put the website on your STD's

That's a tough one. The wording I've found online typically assumes that you have separate invitations for the destination wedding and the at-home reception, but I think it is very considerate of you to let people invited to the wedding that there will be another opportunity to celebrate with you if they can't get to the destination. Given that wording on STDs can be quite informal, perhaps you can do something like:

    Save the dates!

Month, day, year: wedding and reception in XYZ

Different month, day, year: at-home reception in some other city, state

Write something like: Additional reception to be held in (month) in (place). People will understand that details will follow

I agree with Botty -- your STD's shouldn't have all the information on it. Once you send out invitations you can include the information needed. Also like April said make a WW website with further details that they can check back to for updates. That is what we have done. Ours is

    www.weddingwire.com/thisonetimeinmexico

on the STD's you could even say "for more information please visit

www.ourwebsite.com or whatever your link might be. Then you are not adding too much Smiley smile

Does any one have examples of invitation to the destination wedding but also just attending the at home wedding as an option?
