Destination Wedding Hidden Costs

Erin, on March 10, 2016 at 1:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

I will be getting married in August at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya in Mexico. Does anyone know of any hidden costs that we will incur for the wedding? I'm sure there have to be costs that are not listed or talked about until last minute. I would appreciate any input. Thank you in advance.

Hi Erin, welcome to WW! Make sure to upload a picture for your avatar (instead of the default icons) so that we can get to know you and tell you apart from all the other posters. You can do this on a desktop computer under My Settings and Profile and Privacy Settings.

For me the unexpected costs so far for everything wedding-related has been: stamps, vendor tips, service charges, sales tax, setup/delivery charges, etc. It makes sense when you see it on the bill, but I didn't remember those things when I was first getting quotes Smiley smile Also make sure to never assume that anything is included, ask about everything! Are the tables included? Are linens included? What type of linens? etc

Surprisingly, dinner. We're having a destination elopement, just the two of us, in Oregon at a B&B at the base of a mountain. They have a wonderful package that includes cake, champagne, a bouquet, overnight stay, and our officiant. It only just occurred to me a few days ago that after our ceremony, mini reception, and photos, we'll need to eat dinner. So now I'm trying to find a great restaurant that isn't too far from where we'll be. Obviously, if you're having guests and a caterer then this isn't an issue. But you really need to think about every aspect of the day.

I feel like everything is a hidden cost! I was just emailing my wedding consultant at the hotel (wedding in mexico) and I don't know why I thought the rehearsal dinner would be included. It's an all inclusive resort so why do I have to pay for open bar and food?? Sorry just venting!
