Destination Brides - Covid 19

Tiana, on April 26, 2020 at 7:02 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4
Any other destination brides who don’t have a clue where you stand? We’re due to get married 19/09/20 but we’ve decided to cancel. I’m in the UK and we’re supposed to be getting married in Jamaica. As it stands the hotel is closed until whenever the govt allows them to reopen. The borders are closed until 31st May for now. I don’t think the island will be fully open by September and even then subject to quarantine. I’m hoping the travel agent will cancel so we don’t lose any money. I just want to get married so we’ve planned to do a registry office ceremony. I’m 37 soon and we want to start a family so putting the wedding off another year doesn’t work for us.

I’m in the US and have a wedding planned for August 20 in the U.K.! We have no idea right now what we’re going to do Smiley sad don’t even know if the venue/hotels will be open by then and if travel into the U.K. will be allowed!! All of our guests would be traveling internationally. Some family is expecting us to postpone to next year and some family and friends say they will still go if allowed. I’m worried if we go forward with it that no one goes but at the same time don’t want to wait another year! This is SO stressful!!

Oh gosh I’m so sorry. We’re on full lockdown and until next week then they said they’ll review and let us know. I don’t think most of us will be going back to work until June and they said hospitality will be one of the last to open. Apparently the govt is in talks to make it mandatory 14 day quarantine if you enter the country. I don’t even know what to suggest. I’ll keep my fingers x for you. I still can’t make a plan because I’m so disappointed.

Oh nooo Smiley sad thank you for the insight! It’s not looking too good for either of us sadly. Hopefully you’re able to get your money back. I know it’s not the same but maybe later on you can do a big celebration? I’m sure your ceremony will be beautiful! Hugs from across the pond 💖

    Hi Tiana,

I'm so sorry you are going through this! While your wedding is still a few months away, it definitely doesn't hurt to have a back up plan. Have you and your partner considered getting married in a small intimate ceremony? Then you can have a larger reception to celebrate once all of this passes?

Postponing your wedding is not an easy decision, and it's tougher when it's not your call. BUT Jamaica is such a beautiful place -- I'm sure it will be equally fun and relaxing when you're able to head down there.

WeddingWire has gathered some resources here: COVID-19 Wedding Support Central. You'll find articles like:

    - You’ve Decided to Postpone Your Wedding. Now What?

If the financial strain of this pandemic prevents some of your guests from attending, will you be OK with their absence? Will waiting until 2021 guarantee their presence? You can't control anyone's circumstances, of course, so maybe you could take an informal poll of the family and friends that you most want to see at your wedding. Their responses may help you decide your next step. In the end, you should make the decision that feels right for you. tNfzh5l2DqY174PTz2s3UDnoYIEE1TX4V67XINfc

Good luck with your new date, whenever it may be!
