Dessert table display help

starsinwaves, on September 9, 2018 at 2:17 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16

Hi everyone. So we're doing a DIY dessert table for our reception, bringing in different items from different places. I was hoping to use trays and stands from my event company to display them, but my coordinator sent me the picture of what they have and I'm severely disappointed...

I'm not really sure any of these are usable and now I don't know what to do. Should I try to rent from another company? Should I buy my own and sell them after the wedding? This isn't something I really thought about when we decided on the dessert bar and I'm just entirely unsure of what I want to do. We're having cheesecake cupcakes, cannolis, Italian cookies, and black and white cookies. I'm attaching a few inspo pics of what I'm imagining and any help would be appreciated (note that these are a little fancier than I'm going for, but this is the best I could find on Pinterest). Oh, and I should add that my mom has a couple of wood crates from my shower I could possibly use for elevation, maybe I could just get a few more and put trays on different sizes of wood crates?

They look absolutely useable - they just arent the aesthetic you are going for.

I think the options are 1) prioritize ease over expectations and use them and be done or 2) but all new stands. They can add up so be sure this is an expense you absolutely feel you cant do without.

Keep in mind these will look different when filled with tasty treats. I wouldnt blink twice if I saw them at a wedding. They are quite nice.

I guess I should clarify. I do think one cupcake stand will be fine and I do like the one basic cake stand on the right. However, I don't really want four cupcake stands that are all similar but different and I don't like the one that looks like a folding table at all. But thanks for providing some perspective, it really helps.

For my daughter's wedding, the venue has nothing to offer for a dessert buffet so we knew we would need to provide serving pieces ourselves, and the bakery providing the desserts said we need to have the pieces in place as we want them arranged, and labeled...so...

I went to Marshall's/Home goods and hit the jackpot with some awesome all-white serving pieces in different shapes and sizes. Most were just $10 each, the smaller ones were $8 and the footed stands were $12.

I would guess we're paying not much more than it would have cost to rent, and now I can share these pieces with my daughter and other family members for parties and holidays.

Once you put the desserts on them and maybe some ribbons or flowers, they will look great

You can DIY dessert stands using candlestick holders and plates! You glue the base of the plate to the top of the candle holder and then you can spray paint them the same color and add doilies. Smiley smile

This is such a great idea, but I think I'm at my DIY limit.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I think I'll just send my DOC my inspo pics and have her do her thing. No one is gonna care what the cake stands look like, right?

Since you said you have some wooden crates, you could definitely put those on the table at different heights to add levels, and could make it all match by using silver trays from somewhere like Dollar Tree.

I put together this cupcake display, purchases from Hobby Lobby and Micheal's, some Amazon purchases for fairly lights, doilies. I've glueing and spray painting like a crazy person, wedding is this Sunday 😊 it took me about a month and a half to get it all together which I absolutely love and wait to see it the day of BUT I've spent over $1,000 for everything, cupcake display, gift table and favor table. Just an FYI on dyi 😁💒👰💍

Do crates for elevation, add treats and maybe put a few decor around the edges to give it a cute look.
Were plnming on desserts too! Were making our own trays.

I see nothing wrong with any of these! I especially love the one in the middle that looks like lace! I agree with PP that you could put something under them to make them different heights. Otherwise I would buy new ones if they didn't suit me, however that can be fairly expensive.

I definitely think for your more rustic look you should use some of the dessert stands the vendor provides and see if you can purchase some additional pieces cheaper (tj maxx, home goods, savers, yard sales etc.) use your crates for height.

They aren't specifically cupcake stands; you can put any dessert on them.
