So I keep hearing that cakes are a waste of money - no one likes cake and would rather drink than have a slice. My fiancée and I are planning on ordering a small cake for us to cut, but I’m on the fence about what kind of dessert to provide for our guests. My initial thought was to order cupcakes...
So I keep hearing that cakes are a waste of money - no one likes cake and would rather drink than have a slice. My fiancée and I are planning on ordering a small cake for us to cut, but I’m on the fence about what kind of dessert to provide for our guests. My initial thought was to order cupcakes but if people really don’t want cupcakes then I would rather do something else. What I’m leaning toward now is doing a cookie bar - that way it’s something different from cake, I can have variety for guests with different tastes, and I can provide take-home bags for extras at the end of the night. As a guest, would you prefer cupcakes, cookies, or something else?

Thank you and happy wedding planning to all!

Never had a Costco cake! Unfortunately we don’t have any in our area anyway.

We will have a traditional cake, but myself and a lot of my family have a major sweet tooth so we will have a dessert bar which will cater to those who don’t want cake (i.e. cookies, parfaits, candy, mini pies [all will have carious flavor options as well])

Everyone looked forward to the cake at my wedding. I think cake is generally popular and is like still the most recognizable symbol of a celebration. I don't think you have to worry about people not liking cake! Unless your guests are really unusual. Smiley winking

You can ask your guest what they want, in your RSVP card (or online).
You're right, some guest are not big on cakes, I attended a couple weddings where half of it remained uneated.
Alternative ideas? You mentioned cupcakes, you can also consider donuts, brownies, mini pies/tarts,macarons, waffles, pancakes, croquembouches, chocolate cream puffs,a candy bar, meringues, crepe cakes, cimmanon rolls.
