Just Said Yes October 2019

Delayed wedding dress, bankrupt bridal salon,

Hey everyone. So buying my dress has been an absolute nightmare and I need some advice. We did a short engagement - engaged in late Feb 2019, wedding on October 5th 2019. First thing I did when I got engaged was go to the bridal salon to pick out my dress because I knew that would take the longest.

In March, I pick out a dress I like. The bridal salon was really nice. The owner said It will arrive by August 19th - plenty of time to do alterations. I pay 60% deposit for the dress.

Fast forward to July. I get an email at midnight from the bridal salon saying the salon is going bankrupt. None of my deposit actually went toward my dress. I'm told to call the designer (Justin Alexander) and arrange for the dress to be shipped directly to me. I call my bank and dispute the 60% deposit on my credit card and successfully get it back. Phew. Figured all was settled now and the dress would be shipped to me soon - the designer told me it was due to ship on July 23rd.

Then, delays. Every week I am told my dress is about to ship. August 19th arrives, my original deadline. No dress yet. Designer says there are production delays. I push back my alterations appointment.

Now it is September 10th. My wedding is October 5th. The designer says the dress has shipped from the factory and as soon as they get it they'll overnight it to me. I was told this would happen Sunday - it hasn't. My alterations appointment is on Thursday the 12th. No sign that my dress has shipped.

I already have less than 25 days to get all of my alterations done. I am really wondering if I should pull the plug waiting on this dress and go buy something off the rack. Not to mention, this designer is still charging me the full price of the dress as far as I know, even though there's no longer a bridal salon there to take a cut.

What would you do in my situation?

That's cutting it so close! I would reach out to the people with the dress and say you need it by this date no later or you want your money back. Did they give you a date you should have it by when you first ordered it? It wouldn't hurt to go look at dresses on the rack.

If you disputed the transaction and you got your money back they may not send you a dress. Technically they don't any have a deposit. I don't think they'll send you the dress and then wait to be paid right???

Go buy an off the rack dress that can be returned in case your dream dress arrives. But I wouldn’t solely depend on it. Best of luck!

This is what I was thinking too... anyways... I would contact all the bridal salons near you and see what they can do, what they have in stock or what can come in quickly. Also ask them about trunk shows this month. Once you find a new dress just cancel the other order. You can pay extra for expedited alterations too. You’ll be fine just work fast and hard! Many bridal salons are wonderful and will help you out! Tell them your story and they will help! Good luck!
