Decorations Ideas for a Gym

Sparky, on January 21, 2009 at 3:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

We're having our reception in the gym at the church. I would love some ideas on how to make it look less like a gym.

I've thought of renting lattice work stands to go behind the wedding party table, lights under the tableclothes and artifical plants. Does anyone have any other ideas or websites?

Thanks.

Maybe you can do some draping and then it won't look so much like a gym, like from the ceiling or fans. Also if there are poles in the gym you can cover them with tulle.

Please don't use lattice! Really. Call an Event Lighting Company in your area, they have fabric to cover the walls with. Also, for a great price they may also do uplights & lighting for you. Call them, but please don't use lattice.

    Good luck to you!

I always liked the small trees with white christmas lights in them.

    Hi! Congratulations!

You could put down a dance floor over the center area of the court where most of the lines are. This should really helped to make it look less a gym and more like a large banquet room.

I agree about the draping...I love chiffon draping! With the right lighting too, it would be really pretty. Personally I would stay away from the artificial plants, and just do what you can with live plants/flowers...and see what you can rent to save money.

Start with lighting...is there a way to dim the lights on the periphery of the room? Depending upon the size of your wedding party, it can be helpful to limit the amount of space you use in the gym...keeping space you don't need in dim lighting can help create a cozy space that is more manageable to decorate.

Yep - keep those big gym lights off and use an event lighing company. You can rent or borrow plants from a nursery. Draping can be problematic in a gym, but could soften the edges. Use rented table linens to bring the focus to the tables, rather than the floor & walls. I do love the idea of under table lighting, but the cords can be a problem. If you can find battery operated string lights, use those. Your florist can certainly get them for you. Send pictures of what you did, we'd love to see!
