Decorating a 4000 sq. ft venue ourselves in 2 hours??

Haley, on February 18, 2020 at 6:00 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 18
Is this doable at all? The venue sets up tables and chairs.

I think this depends on a lot of things such as what you’re decorating? Do you mean like you need to put linens and table settings in addition to centerpieces?

Yes. We will need to take care of all decorating including table linens, setting tables, centerpieces, aisle and pergola decor, etc. We have the venue for 8 hours.

This would also depend again on how many tables you have and how many people you have to help you. If you’ve a ton of people you can surely bang it out.

Agree with PP. Depending on how many people you have to help/how many tables. A group of determined family/friends can definitely accomplish amazing things!

I’m just gonna tell you...it’s not gonna happen. I thought I could do this too and I had lots of help and it took at least 4 hours. We did 2 hours the night before and weren’t even close to done so people helped finish the next day.

This is something that takes A LOT longer than you think. I mean, it depends more on how many tables than on the square footage of the venue, but setting tables takes a long time. I used to work for a caterer and we always had a team of people (who were experienced) and to set a whole room would take hours.

Do yourselves (and anyone you are drafting in to help you for free!) a favor and hire people to do this. You don't need to be stressing and sweating on your wedding day.

Yeah I agree. I've been trying to tell my dad that but he's not buying it. He wont budge. I was up til 5am tossing and turning stressing about stuff and missed my morning class. This is not how I pictured planning my wedding to turn out.

There will be 12 round buffet tables for guests, a long wedding party table, etc.

It's OK if your dad doesn't want to pay for this; you can still pay for it. It's your wedding and you should be able to pay for the things that will save you stress.

I'd ask for help. I think that's a lot to do in 2 hours, so you're gonna need helpers. I'd bring tape, zip ties, tacks, glue and steamer just in case 😂

How much would you say is a reasonable price to hire enough helpers to get the job done in 2 hours?

We're doing it ourselves. We get the venue at 8:00am the day of and the wedding is at 6:00pm. The venue will arrange the tables as instructed and we'll just have to go in and decorate. I'm not doing a full table setting though. We'll have table cloths, linen napkins, and silverware on the tables. There will be a beverage station with the glasses and the plates will go on the buffet line. We have a considerable amount of time before we even begin pictures (starting at 3:00ish) so I think it will be fine. There will be 22-25 tables but my centerpieces will be ready to rock when I get there that morning. I also have 7 bridesmaids and 7 groomsmen and 3 ushers that will be more than happy to help me. LOL I'm not even worried about it.

That does NOT sound like something I want to do on my wedding day. Hire or enlist help.

We had the entire day before our wedding to decorate and it took The. Entire. Day. I mean...hours and hours. And this was with a lot more help than I anticipated (I underestimated how many people wanted to pitch in). We didn’t even do a whole lot, we just put some tea lights around the ceremony space and put some potted plants at the end of the aisle, in the reception space we strung up some string lights, set up 2 or 3 signs, put out favors, positioned the tables where we wanted them, and got them set with linens and tea lights, we didn’t even do the actual centerpieces, the florist brought them and plopped them on the table in the morning. And this took hours! You will Definitely need more time than you think!

I would get a ton of help. For me I know I had 1.5-2 hours to only set up ceremony an social hour and even then I had a lot of help with it. If you hire a team it might be really expensive though

There is another option. We found a venue that will be half the price of this current one but we will have it for the entire weekend. The only problem is that my dad is saying that if we change anything about what he wants for the wedding he will no longer help pay for it. And to be completely honest we really need his help.
