Decision to postpone, venue not available next year

Michelle, on May 27, 2020 at 9:13 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

Hi all you lovely ladies.

My wedding is supposed to be in Jamaica November 4th 2020. Because of the international travel, high risk age group, and everyone moving their weddings I decided to try and postpone. Honestly I am just so tired of stressing out over the flights. The constant nagging in my mind saying it’s not going to be ok. I was also worried there wouldn’t be any dates available for 2021. My venue does have a great policy with a one time no charge move of date. If they cancel, due to things like covid it’s a full refund, and if I cancel it’s 50% refund on deposit.

So I reached out to move the date to next year. (The resort I am booked at is a hard place to get a wedding booked) unfortunately the only 2 dates they have are right in the middle of hurricane season, August and September 2021. They also have a sister property that would has 2 options for availability, June 2021, and October 2021 the start, and end of the rainy season. So the only alternative dates they can give me are basically the wet season in Jamaica.

Now I have a new found stress lol I feel better about moving the wedding, but I’m not sure what I should do now.

I know in my heart, for my situation, and family that waiting it out is not an option. Waiting will also not going to help me find a date for next year. The wedding being in Jamaica means a lot to me and my fiancé.

Do I start looking into other resort options? While keeping my date at the current venue, and hope they cancel and I get all my money back...?

Rebook during hurricane season 2021 and deal with rain everyday from 1-4pm. Which is a lot of money to spend to have half the day with rain. I am also from western Canada and I see enough rain, all year long lol.

Just cancel, get my 50% back and hope I can find somewhere else in Jamaica?

Rebook to 2022. Which just simply sucks. I have been planning for 18 months already, and my dress is here ect.

I know no one can make the decision for me, I’m just feeling a little defeated but at the same time relieved to have made the decision to postpone. The resort is just so beautiful and the exact vibe we wanted.

I just want to be excited again.

I'm sorry, this whole situation is just a mess for everyone.

I think you laid out your feelings pretty clearly. Best thing you can do is research other options, and then .... let it sit in your brain for a bit.

That's so tough Michelle! I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. Smiley heart

It sounds like having the wedding in Jamaica is really important to you, so it doesn't hurt to reach out to a few other places and seeing if they have more openings.
