Day of tasks

Krys, on June 9, 2020 at 2:18 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 11

We are not hiring any sort of caterer or coordinator. We are having pizza delivered and doing everything ourselves with he help of family and friends. I'm making a list of everything that will need to be taken care of throughout the day so we can assign tasks. What all will need to be attended to? I have someone picking up ice, refilling drink containers, playing "DJ"...

Who will help with the decor and set up?

Our bridal party is helping with the set up. I will be doing that as well because I want to make sure it's all right. No one will man guest book, we'll probably just make an announcement as a reminder to sign Smiley smile

This really depends on your venue and what they do/what needs to be done. Here are some of the tasks my DOC completed.

    Decorate arch

    Setup centerpieces and place settings

    Setup ceremony chairs

    Flip venue for reception

Made sure we stuck with our timeline

Coordinate with vendors on arrival times

    Setup card table

    Setup cake table

    Setup guestbook table

Gathered family for cocktail hour photos

Helped bartender keep the bar stocked

    Tear down and clean up

Loaded decor/card box/leftovers/whatever into designated vehicles

Speaking from experience, be aware that anyone working at the wedding will not be able to enjoy themselves as a guest since they'll distracted with various other duties.

Have someone designated to be the coordinator type person who is in charge of assigning setup/teardown, answering questions as any problems arise.
Who will be cutting and serving your cake? Make sure they know to cut it small enough that you don't run out since wedding bakers consider a serving to be 1/2 the size or smaller of a party cake slice that is normal for any other event.

Yes!! I'm hoping to spread the tasks to enough people that each has to focus on just a small portion of the evening and still has plenty of time to have fun! We're doing pizza and cupcakes so no one has to serve anything and drink dispensers so everyone can get their own drinks. They're 2 gal dispensers so i'm hoping they'll only need to be refilled once. And we do have a bartender that will serve all the alcohol.

The biggest concern I would have with this is sanitary concerns especially with the virus. How do you plan on keeping the pizza warm? Also, what about preventing the spread of germs? A lot of places have eliminated buffets to limit the spread of germs. I also don't know how much fun I would have if I was in charge of do something for someone's wedding. My concern would be on that task rather than enjoying myself.

I would suggest nominating a mistress of ceremonies to act as your day of coordinator.
Get on YouTube and watch wedding day timeline videos, a lot of wedding planners create videos that will go in detail if you’re trying to do this all yourself. I have to agree though, attending someone’s wedding where everyone has to work doesn’t sound ideal, but I think you can make it work.
