Day of logistics: Get dressed at hotel? Or at church?

Kelly, on March 12, 2016 at 9:43 PM Posted in Planning 1 17

Hey Ladies - as the big day gets closer, I'm trying to work out the ever-important timeline and this question occurred. I'm getting hair and makeup done with my BM's at the hotel the morning of the wedding.....the ceremony is at a church a 5 minute drive away, and the reception is back at the hotel itself. So do I put my dress, etc. on at the hotel or the church? I think the lighting would be better at the hotel and the room would be bigger/more comfortable. Plus, there's some really pretty landscaping/flowers in the courtyard of the hotel for BM photos. But on the other hand, I suppose I run some risk of getting the dress dirty and/or wrinkling it on the (albeit brief) drive to the church. So that option could be more relaxing. Any brides have any insight?

ETA: FH and I are doing a First Look at the Church.

I've wondered how others do it too. I think I've decided on doing everything at the hotel, but changing into the dress at the venue.

Hotel to get intimate pictures of bridesmaids "fussing" over helping you get dressed

I would get dressed at the hotel. More photo opportunity! And with only a 5 min drive it doesn't make a big difference Smiley smile i walked with my dress on grass and it was fine! Plus, my bridal party helped me get around lol

Typically the bride arrives at the church dressed and ready to roll.

So we (BMs, mom, and myself) got ready (hair and makeup) in the apartment that my parents rented for the week (it was in the same apartment complex that DH and I live in).

The BMs and myself arrived at the church in our getting ready clothes (it was warm fuzzy PJ pants and a monogramed zipup hoodie that I got each of the girls). (Everyone else showed up in their wedding attire).

Our church has a "getting ready room" which is just the church choir's practice room. We were able to get into our dresses there (I did a first look with my BMs -- my mom and sister/MOH helped me into the dress. I also did a first look with my dad).

Honestly, I would ask your photographer what they suggest. Our photographer (as well as the church wedding coordinator) highly suggested I get in my dress at the church - they told me that the BMs could get changed at either place. They just didn't want the chance for the dress to get dirty or accidentally ripped/caught or whatnot. **We also arrived at the church around 12:30 for a 2pm ceremony.

    ETA: Typos.

If you're getting ready at the hotel then get dressed at the hotel. All pictures can be complete there and you can arrive ready to go. I did everything at the church.

Thanks, ladies! Will definitely ask the relevant vendors (Church coordinator; photographer, etc.).

We changed at the synagogue. It just seemed easier not to worry about the dresses getting wrinkled or dirty along the way. Plus, we could drive/decorate the synagogue/etc. without dealing with big, heavy dresses.

Then again, we also had our hair and make-up done at the synagogue.

I will be putting my dress on at the hotel. Gives time for pictures with BMs and mom.

Videographer and former Makeup Artist here. I vote hotel also. Relaxed and pretty space, plus everything you need is there and doesn't have to be transported to the ceremony location; too easy to forget something!

We're getting dressed at the hotel we're getting ready at. Best photo opportunities, and since we're doing bridesmaid pictures and a first look before we head to the ceremony location, it just makes sense.

We're having our hair and makeup done at the hotel then getting dressed at the hotel. The plan is to do the first look when FH comes and picks me up in the rental vintage car before heading to the church for some more photos prior to the church ceremony.
