Day-of Coordinator

Future Mrs. B, on January 31, 2020 at 11:39 AM Posted in Planning 1 20

Hi Ladies,

I've been thinking about getting a day-of coordinator for my wedding. I was hoping to spend only a few hundred dollars, but I've received a few quotes and they have been around $1,500, which is way over what I was hoping to spend. Can you please tell me how much you are spending if you have a day-of coordinator. One comes with the venue, but I just don't think she will provide the level of service I am expecting for my big day. I want someone to handle all of the fire drills and last minute emergencies, but I don't think it's worth $1.5k.

I have a bridesmaid that would be excellent at doing this, but I would much rather prefer my whole party to be able to relax and enjoy that day, as well.

Let me know your thoughts!! Thanks!

Mine is $1350 and will include a few rentals she has. Otherwise, her base is $950 (I added on extra time for clean up after the wedding). Most I see are between $1200-$1500 (in So Cal).

Do you have a more distant relative or family friend who would be willing to take on the task? I have a DOC through the venue, but my aunt and my mother's friends are arriving early to help with prep work and whatnot. That way all of the immediate family and bridal party can have someone to help take care of small things so they don't have to stress about it. Both were more than happy to help and enjoy having a "job" to do. (plus they're free! But we'll get them a gift as a thank-you)

I do have a friend that would be excited to do it, but I feel like she does not have that take charge and make an executive decision attitude and will be asking me questions all day and stressing me out in the end. lol I do have an aunt that may be up to the task. Thanks!

Yeah, I'm in VA and I see that range, as well. I just don't think it's worth that much. Thanks for commenting!

I found mine in a FB group on a brides to bride group in my city. I paid $700 dollars for mine and she is amazing! She has practically been a planner and coordinator all in one. She has made the entire process so much better. I have always heard one thing that people did regret not doing is having a coordinator.

I paid $2,000 for mine. It's a little pricier than others, but I'm an event planner by trade, so I'm very sensitive to all the logistics of the wedding. I needed someone who I thought was completely qualified to handle my neurosis and pull off the wedding. It's a price I'm happy to pay. Also, I'm in the NY area (Hudson Valley--next to NYC)

You have to think about all the work the day entails, though. Most DOCs come in a month or so before the wedding to get the plan set. On the day of, they set up decor, coordinate vendors, make sure your day runs smoothly (which means dealing with any issues that may arise), and clean up at the end of the night. If they're a professional, they also have their overhead to pay (advertising, insurance, etc.), which is why they run the prices they run. At the end of the day, the wedding itself is only part of the service.

That's amazing! I'd be much more comfortable paying $700 especially with 3 people.

Mine is $500 and that includes her travel and her needing to stay the night between the rehearsal and the wedding. She is a friend of a friend that coordinated a wedding I was a BM in last year. If you are in the VA/DC/MD area I would recommend her above all else!

Caroline Whitehouse of Opal Weddings by Caroline. She is funny, sweet, friendly as all get out, and very detail oriented. She kept a wedding that started late because of late/slow MUA on track and the bride from freaking out.

Mine is $1500, which is actually low for the SF Bay Area. Normally my coordinator is $2500 but she happens to be a good friend of mine so she gave me a discount.

I think $1500 is a small price to pay to not be stressed out on one of the most important days in my life.

Mine is $1800, which seemed to be the norm for the area (Oregon/Washington). She's already been super helpful to date (we communicate once or twice a month), and she will be there ALL DAY the day of. I decided it was worth it because I do not want to be stressing about anything. I wanted myself and my family/friends to relax and enjoy themselves, not worrying about details. She'll run the rehearsal the morning of, put out the minimal decor I've planned for the space and generally keep everyone running as on schedule as possible.

We had a planner/DOC, so she helped us from start to finish. So we paid well over $1,500. BUT, having a DOC is what I consider a must have for a wedding! They really do keep things running smoothly and take a lot of stress off of you! If you find one you like, I’d book her/him. It’s worth the money.

I paid $1000 for my DOC and that was with a discount since I met her at a bridal expo. Keep in mind you’re not just paying them for that one day but their involvement leading up to it as well.
