Day of Coordinator vs. Venue Coordinator

Michelle, on August 28, 2017 at 12:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

My hotel venue has a venue coordinator for the day of the wedding, should I also hire a day off Coordinator? The DOC sets up and cleans up too. Which is one thing I really wanted so myself, family and friends don't have to decorate or clean up. I want everyone to enjoy themselves and not feel like they have a job. Advise needed!!

If you want someone to set up and clean up, you need a DOC. The venue coordinator will just help tell the other vendors where to go, where the bathroom is, there's an extra extension cord over here, etc. The venue coordinator isn't going to deal with your guests or decorations.

My favorite planner will tell you day of doesn't exist. She does month of, and won't do day of because at that point she isn't involved enough to know enough to be effective. This way she contacts vendors and knows enough about the couple to be effective on the day and keep shit together. She's much more effective than different day of coordinators I've seen attempt their jobs.

Our venue is a hotel, as well. The event coordinator handles everything that a DOC would. She and her staff handle set up and tear down, we just send photos of what we want the set up to be. She also covers security and handles guests who may or may not get out of hand.

I'd find ask your venue coordinator exactly what they cover and do not cover.

I would look to hire a DOC. I booked one who calls himself a DOC but he starts the month of (he actually started earlier by a couple of weeks). He is handling all of the timelines, schedules, logistics with vendors, decor set-up, venue breakdown, etc. He has already been worth every penny and will even more so be as we get closer. I feel so much better knowing that my to-do list has shrunk thanks to him, that I will be able to enjoy the day without being involved, and that nobody (friends and family) will have to lift a finger.
