Day of coordinator or event planner?

Alicia, on October 11, 2019 at 10:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 13
Hello fellow brides! I’m not sure is this is the correct place to post this. But I wanted to know you all thoughts on a day of coordinator or an event planner. Are they the same? Which did you ladies hire?

A planner will help you during the months leading up to the wedding; booking a venue, finding vendors, picking decor, etc. A day of coordinator is just there for the day of to help things run smoothly, be a point of contact for guests, vendors, and wedding party, and typically setup and tear down. We hired a DOC because I wanted full control over the planning process, so a planner wouldn't have been useful for us.

Not the same, but similar. An event planner generally plans the wedding in its entirety (research venues, building a budget, making payments, creating timelines, and much more) while a DOC jumps into planning about 1-2 months before the wedding to get things ready for the day of and to make sure things run smoothly the day of. We've hired a DOC and for our particular wedding she'll call all vendors about two weeks out from the wedding to finalize quotes/counts/time of arrival, set up and break down the event, orchestrate our rehearsal, transition guests from the ceremony to reception area, keep our bar stocked (providing our own alcohol), and basically handling every little crisis that arises.

We hired a full service planner and she was absolutely amazing but very expensive. But she handled every aspect of my wedding in the year leading up to it.

I think they are different. However our venue offers a wedding coordinator who helps with everything

I hired what is technically a day of coordinator, but provides more communication than most that I saw. I dabble in event planning with my job, so I didn't need someone to help me find vendors or design the day.

With my day of coordinator, we have a monthly check-in via phone, two in-person meetings (one 90 days out, one the week of) and then she's there 8 hours on the day of.

I hired a day of coordinator! With help from friends we can conquer the wedding planning and the coordinator can take over 6 weeks before the wedding

I have a DOC who also happens to be my best friend. She will help with things leading up to the wedding. Then on the day of, she will make sure everything gets set up, keep stuff stocked, direct guests, and help us tear down the following morning.

They're different. Day of coordinator is literally just for the day of where as the event planner would help you actually plan your whole wedding

I’m looking for something where they can pull my vision to life. I want to be involved with selecting my vendors especially catering and trying to cut cost. Possibly semi diy like centerpieces, invitations, seating chart, etc, etc. would it be best to go for a DOC or an event planner. The pictures i posted is an example of what i want someone to pull to life. I obviously can’t do this and unsure which way to go.

Thank you. It’s confusing. Idk which way i want to go with this. I just know i need help with decorating more than finding vendors and things like that.

My DOC will be decorating the morning of, I'm sure me and my bridal party will be helping with that as well depending on how much decorating we have to do.

If you want to source all of the decorations yourself and just want someone to put them up and keep things running smoothly, I would hire a DOC. If you want someone to help you source these decorations and do a little vendor coordination, I would look into a partial planning package with a planner. If you want someone to find and coordinate vendors on top of all that, I’d look into full-service planning.
