Day of coordinating

Mariah, on May 20, 2021 at 9:11 AM Posted in Planning 0 5
Is it necessary to have a day of coordinator? We are inviting 75 people but expecting about 55-60 It’s a backyard wedding at my parents house in October 2021. Most of my family is doing things to help out with the wedding set up. Our caterer has someone who will be in charge of making sure everything food related goes smoothly. Thoughts?

Yes! I always always answer the "wedding regret" question with "I wish we had a DOC". We had a small wedding too, but a DOC is so important for making the whole day go smoothly. They'll direct set up, coordinate with other vendors and make sure you are not bothered by a thing!

A day of coordinator is necessary because they work in the background with all the vendors to help your day run smoothly. A venue coordinator won’t do anything if your baker doesn’t show up or the dj has issues. Same for a catering coordinator. They only work with their area of expertise.

I think it is if it's for certain logistics you want help with. otherwise if you feel that you have things mostly under control then it's fine to skip.

We’re eloping in the summer and our photographer offered to help us set up the styled beach picnic. After about three weeks of wondering how we could logistically set up a styled picnic on the beach (mind you we will have our dog coming along too).... I decided we needed a day-of coordinator. We’re doing ~2-3 hours of consult and ~3-4 hours of setup/tear down. As I plan and reach out to all the vendors, I make sure to email her with any updates to the day on a monthly basis. She’s recommended some awesome vendors and has dramatically cut down on some stressors.

If you have a budget for it, definitely look at getting one. This is one person you are guaranteed to have 1000% on your side...

If you can afford a coordinator, please get one. My planner/coordinator has been a literal godsend. She helps handle all of the last minute details with the vendors and timeline, and if anything goes wrong or questions pop up, she is the one dealing with it and not you. You can just focus on getting married and enjoying yourself.
