David's Bridal preservation before wedding

C_Law2018, on May 12, 2018 at 8:08 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
I bought my dress at Alfred Angelo going out of business sale, it needs to be cleaned. I went to Davids bridal to get accessories and everything, the lady recommended I buy the preservation kit to get it cleaned before the wedding since it's $100 and most dry cleaners start at 200 for wedding dresses. She said the only downside it could take up to 6 weeks to get back. Has anyone ever had their dress preserved this before the wedding?

You just need it dry cleaned. Call around and see how much it is. Mine was 120.

Did you live near a ZIPS Cleaners? They charge a wedding dress like any other clothing item, $2.75. I know because I brought in my Goodwill found wedding dress and had it dry cleaned for $2.75.

What?!! That's amazing. I called a few different places near me and all have started around $190. Which isn't just a ridiculous price but the lady suggested it at DB so I was thinking of it as an option.

So they shouldn't do that. Since wedding dresses are white they have to clean the machine before they clean and it and they only clean that one dress. That is why it costs so much. I also wouldn't trust David's with my dress.

Before taking the dress into the dry cleaners or doing anything with it, please check the label. I also bought my dress at the Alfred Angelo liquidation sale and the day before taking it to the dry cleaners we looked at the label and found out that the dress was spot clean only. Dry cleaning could’ve potentially messed up the lace and beading! Instead we are going to dip the dress in a mixture of woolite and water. This is what my seamstress had suggested. Best of luck to you!

I wouldn't get it preserved before the wedding. There are certain things done during preservation that are different than cleanings.

And the David's bridal kit is done through an outside company that just contracts through David's. The company is amazing and I, along with multiple friends, have used the service with amazing results. I love how my dress looks boxed up. (Actually, it's sitting in my living room right now because we're remodeling and I get to look at it every day 😍)

TL;DR: don't preserve before, just get it cleaned, and definitely get a preservation kit for after.

We bought the preservation kit, but I'm not going to do that before the wedding. That seems silly.

As a employee of David’s Bridal I don’t recommend this! I don’t know much outside of selling the kit- but I wouldn’t recommend this to a customer!

Didn't even think to look! Thanks for advice! The Liquidation sale was so good, I couldn't pass up on the dress.

Like I said i don’t know much outside of selling the kit but because it’s a preservation kit they put the dress in a box for display when they send it back to you. I am not sure how they display it, if it’s with pins or plastic pins but I would imagine it would come back rather wrinkled anyways from being in a box, in which case it would need to be steamed, adding another coat.
