Davids Bridal dress pick-up question

Natasha, on March 10, 2011 at 1:20 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

For those of you who have ordered dresses through David's Bridal, did they have you try on your dress when you picked it up? I'm not going to have it altered through them and didn't make an alterations appointment or anything. I was basically wondering if they'd just hand over or if they'd have me try it on. Not sure which I prefer, but FH and the kids will be with me, and I wouldn't want to hold them up too long since I won't let him see the dress. Thanks in advance!

Its up to you at most locations...they like you to at the very least look over the dress. If you want to try it on let them know...if you do not really want to see much just explain it to the cashier when you pick it up..

I would try it on, or at least make sure its the proper size that was ordered.

I would definitely recommend trying the dress on before you leave. That way you know for sure that it's the right dress and the right size, and, if it isn't, you can talk to someone about taking care of it. If you leave with the dress and it's not right, it may not be so easy.

Try it on and inspect it thoroughly. I love Davids Bridal they have been great with me, but when my dress came in I didn't notice till my second fitting after having the bustle done that there was a small defect in the bodice. They tried to fix it but were unable so they are ordering me a new dress. It was very small and hard to notice but since I knew it was there it was going to bug me lol

You're right, I guess I should just try it on. I'll just have Zack and the kids wait out in the car and hopefully it won't take too long. There's other stores very close-by, so maybe they could just go walk around there.

Oh and I forgot to ask, should I bring my petticoat with me to wear underneath when I try it on? I don't have my spanx yet, but I have the petticoat.

If you are not doing alterations there, there is no reason to have any of your under-clothes. I think you just want to try it on to be sure they didn't order 3 sizes too big or 3 sizes too small... and that it looks clean and in good condition.

Bring the shoes, spanx, slip/petticoat to your alterations appointment.

If you are going to try on the dress I would say yes, bring all of your "underthings" with you or you won't know what it will really look like.

I would say try it on. You want it to be perfect. It may need steaming, which if I recall about DB you can bring it back right before wedding to have that done! Not sure what kind of dress you have.

DB will only do the steaming if you have not had any alterations done to it.... If they do the alterations - the steaming/cleaning is free. I had to drop the brides dress off and they drilled me with questions -- What alterations does she need? (none) Why, where did you get them done? (no where) We don't clean if she had alterations done (SHE HAD NO ALTERATIONS! IT FIT PERFECT) What about bustle? (she doesn't want one) But she needs a bustle! (is it free?) No, not free (Well, then she doesn't want a bustle) Ok, ok, yes, drop it off.

Yes they do. Also bring all of your undergarments with you. I also took this time to try on different jewelry and veils to see what looks good with your dress, this way you will know wht kind of necklace will look right with your dress. Its ultimately up to you, but it never hurts to try it on just to be sure the correct size was ordered. Also be sure to look your dress over very good, I've read horror stories of brides who ordered from David's Bridal and when their dress came in it had make up stains around the neckline.
