Dark or Light Ivory

Ahna, on November 6, 2016 at 12:10 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

Does anyone have vw351135 from David's Bridal? I'm really stuck on white and this dress only comes in ivory. Is it a lighter or darker shade of ivory? I love this dress but unsure if I want to compromise on on color.

I could go either way just prefer white...as does my fiance. He's strictly pro white only dress

He prohibited white (why is he "prohibiting" anything??) yet prefers white? That makes no sense.

I have one of their ivory dresses. It looks white until held up to a garishly stark white piece.

I don't see why this is that big of an issue if you look okay in ivory. Very few can actually pull off stark white anyway.

@MNA I'm guessing she meant hes pro white dress? Like for it? My best assumption.

I thought about going ivory for mine, as it doesn't look not white until held up to pure white, but my wedding colors include white. So I may end up with a stark white dress.

Auto correct messed up my comment. He's asked for white only. It's up to me for final decision and I prefer white as well, I just LOVE the dress.

Does he actually know the difference between pure white and ivory? When most guys say they want white, they mean they would prefer a wedding dress that isn't a colored gown, but don't fully understand that "white" means a whole bunch of different shades.

But from what you're saying, you look fine in white or ivory anyway so if you love the dress then I highly doubt your FH is going to throw a temper-tantrum on your wedding day if he sees you walking down the aisle in an ivory gown instead of a "white" dress.

He is very observant to tiny details. But you make a good point, especially if you count the fact that the dress is lighter ivory. I really want to find it tho.

You could probably find it at... davids bridal??

As far as the color most davids bridal label dresses tend to be a lighter ivory, mine definitely is

I called my local one amd they don't have it. Suppose the easiest way is going see a vera tulle in ivory but a different dress.

I thought white would wash me out because my skin is light colored and it didn't look as good as colored dresses! Everyone loved my skin with the colored dress vs white.

But honestly you cannot tell the color difference of white and ivory unless they are next to true white.

White is going to have a blue cast.

The deceiving thing is that if you were going with a high end designer that uses real silk or natural fibers? White would be a "diamond white" or ivory color because...you can't bleach a natural fiber to the bright blue-white of a synthetic cloth gown.

Ivory also is generally much more flattering on people.

I would ask if your store can order one in for you to try on. They often will if it isn't a discontinued dress.

He might be pro-white only but it really doesn't look good on everyone. If you like the way stark white looks on you then great, but don't force yourself to wear it just because he wants you to. While I think it's nice when brides take into consideration what their partners might want to see them in, your dress is really the only thing that you have complete say in and it should be something you genuinely love.

Which looks better on YOU? What MNA said---have the store order it for you to try on.

My DH said he was pro-white. I went with a gold dress with ivory tulle over it and he couldn't tell the difference. Haha

I would also definitely try it on before pulling the trigger and buying it, they waist on the dress may sit somewhere funny on you or you just might not like how it looks on you, my opinion varied greatly between dresses that were essentially the same cut from the same designer

I would love to try these on but I'm in New Mexico which is a bridal wasteland. I have to find them and the one from David's Bridal I would have to just order and buy. The other ones I'm seeing if I can get them thru a designer borrow program.

My FH only wanted me to get white until I showed him some examples of ivory dresses and he couldn't tell a difference. I ended up getting a dress with color in because it's what I loved. He won't stop you from walking down the aisle if you come out in a dress that's not stark white.
