Dance Songs "Must Play List"

Tera, on September 24, 2009 at 1:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

I am trying to get lists together for songs to keep the party going. I know that songs like the "cha cha slide" get people out on the floor who don't normally dance. Any suggestions for some great songs to keep everyone entertained and to keep everyone on the floor. Give me some good ones! Smiley smile

As far as trying to get people on the floor I think the best thing to do is hire a good DJ and leave it to his professional expertise to read the crowd and pick the songs that fill the floor best. They'll know better than you what everyone is responding to. If you give them TOO many must play songs then they won't have the freedom to make the adjustments for the crowd in front of them. I think the "must play" list should only be a few songs that are personally important to you as a couple to be played and leave the rest to the pros!

I'm with Laura on this one. If you have a good DJ they will know which songs to play based off of the crowd. Too many must play songs makes a DJ feel restricted and then if people don't dance they can't mix it up because of your list. Plus if your must play list takes up the entire night then no one can put in requests.

I think it's most important to make a "do not play" list--- like if you hate country music or hate the chicken dance, etc. Then the DJ or band leader has a reason to not honor someone's request! Then, like others have said, trust their instincts to keep the party going! :o)

Here are our most requested party songs that keep the party going. It might even give you an idea of what you DO NOT want to have played! Some people like all of these, and some don't! Feel free to take a listen!

    Tera,

Keep in mind that weddings are multi-generational family events with a broad age range, and each guest should have a chance to dance to songs that they like. You may want to poll your guests in advance to give you song titles, such as their first dance song, or encourage them to make requests as the evening progresses.

"I gotta feeling" by the black eyed peas is my favorite. I think it's going to be the last song. Because it's going to be a good GOOD night!
