Dance lessons at the wedding...

Bri, on January 24, 2020 at 3:37 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 6
Has anyone thought about having a dance lesson taught at the actual wedding? Apparently this is a thing? My FH's sister did it and he said people enjoyed it. We are thinking about doing the lesson during what would be the cocktail hour while we take our husband and wife pictures. My mom thinks it's weird, my maid of honor loves the idea. Thoughts?

The thought is that we love West coast swing and it'show we met. We have several friends coming who also dance WCS. So it might be fun to have everyone (or at least people who want to dance) know the basics? Plus, if there is an activity going, we dont have to pay for horderves...?

I love the idea of a dance lesson, but I disagree that having an activity means guests won't expect snacks during cocktail hour. Some of the guests may want to munch and drink instead of dancing. Also, the instructor may end up being more expensive than the additional food

Well the instructor would be a friend and it would be kinda like their gift to us. You're probably right about the food though. My worry though is that people will gravitate towards food and not do the lesson. But I really want people to try it because we both love it so much.

I think its a cute idea considering that it is really special for the two of you but I also disagree that people still won't be wanting drinks and snacks in addition to it.

I think it would be awesome! When my dad and step mom got married they actually taught everyone how to line dance at the reception! Then they transitioned into the chicken dance to give the extra little kids and their families a fun thing to dance to!

    Everyone enjoyed it Smiley smile

I would disagree though that people won't want some food during cocktail hour. I know at my parents reception it didn't take 1 hour to teach people to dance, it was maybe 10-15 minutes just so you could let loose and have some fun!

I've actually been to a wedding with a swing dance lesson as part of the dancing portion of the evening. It was fun to watch but I wasn't in the mood to participate (that's on me, no complaints about them having it). It's fine if you want to do this, but I think if you do, you need to completely remove your expectations about who will participate and how much. Some will, some won't and that's just life.

And I agree with everyone else, that the dance lesson is completely unrelated to whether or not you should be serving food during cocktail hour (you should). Having food won't discourage the people who want to dance from dancing. Not having food won't encourage the people who don't want to dance to dance. And food belongs with cocktails.

I hate dancing because I suck at it. I think this would be a fun way to get all the awkward people out there...like myself. Haha
