Dairy free

basicallybex, on February 21, 2017 at 10:41 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 59

I'm cutting dairy out of my diet, which seems to be a huge source of problems for me. Problem: because I'm removing it from my diet it's all I want Smiley sad anyone have any good not yucky tasting dairy substitutes they recommend.

Wow, that is a big undertaking. Best of luck in your diet transitions! Pinterest usually has a lot of charts that show good substitutes.

The Ben and Jerry's non dairy ice cream is pretty good. The PB and Cookies is my fave.

I actually prefer Almond milk (preferably unsweetened vanilla) over dairy milk (almond milk greek yogurt, on the other hand, is disgusting!). I think Arctic Zero frozen desserts are dairy free (but double check that), and a whole pint is a lot less calories than normal ice cream!

No advice, just sympathy...I recently cut grains and all I can think about is a nice fresh loaf of bread...

Almond milk is delicious, and almond milk ice cream. I can't do without cheese so I'd recommend Veggie Cheese over no cheese.

Are you doing Whole 30 by any chance? My aunt just started it and we found some amazing recipes for her to get excited about if you're interested.

Nutritional yeast! It sounds disgusting but it is a seasoning that tastes like cheese! I have made some great vegan Mac and cheeses with it! Also makes a great popcorn topper for a low calorie snack.

I also recommend tofu ricotta - using a good processor grind up a block of tofu with about 1/4 a cup of nutritional yeast and your favorite spices. I used it in stuffed shells and my family could not tell the difference - also works as a great dip!

Also seconding non-sweetened vanilla almond milk - califia farms is my favorite and their ingredient list is water, almonds and vanilla extract I believe - they also have an amazing line of coffee made with almond milk that is a good sweet treat without the dairy guilt!

Recently tried cashew milk in my latte at a local coffee shop, and it was amazing! Look into hemp milk as well, it's a little heartier than coconut or almond, or soy. I tend to use almond milk in savory dishes, if I need milk to cook with, and coconut milk in baking/sweet things. Coconut oil can sometimes be used to replace butter in certain recipes as well. Take a look on Pinterest for dairy free recipes as well! I found a delicious dairy-free Alfredo sauce recipe that is made from cauliflower, caramelized onions, vegetable stock, coconut oil, and almond milk.

Is this for a diet or for health reasons? Also is your aversion to Dairy or Lactose, there's a difference in terms of allergies.

I'm lactose free and there's tons of great options. I use Silk Almond coffee creamer, So Coconut milk yogurt (it doesn't taste like coconut at all), Cabot Brand cheeses are lactose free. @Massy is right, that flavor of Ben & Jerry's non-dairy is the best thing ever!! Lots of organic stores will have tons of dairy/lactose free options. Instead of eating ice cream, which I love, I buy Talenti Gelato Raspberry Sorbet, so delicious.

I'm vegan and getting off dairy was the best thing I ever did for my health. The good news: those cravings you are having will go away. It took 6 months for me and the last four months it was very occasional. Dairy now smells fucking disgusting to me so you definitely won't feel like you do now forever. For creamy texture use raw cashews that have been soaked overnight in water and blended completely smooth. For coffee and tea, there are now a bunch of vegan creamers. I use soy milk but it doesn't taste like dairy milk, so it's best to think about it as an alternative not a substitute. Silk has some vegan yougurt that is goid, sadly I can't get plain unsweetened where I am yet, but it exists from several producers. For cheese, Chao slices are much like jack, Daiya is like cheap processed cheese (but it does melt), Miyoko's Kitchen and Kite Hill cheeses are so similar to nice dairy cheese you won't be able to tell the difference. Have patience, it is totally worth it! My stomach issues vanished, my skin cleared up 80% after decades of acne, and I felt a million times better.

I get super unsettled when I drink milk or have too much cheese. So I'm trying to see if I feel better. It's kind of like a cleanse. I appreciate all the advice, definitely going shopping today! (:

I feel you on the no dairy, I try to avoid it all costs. It causes sinus issues for me. Prior posters suggestions are all great. I also wanted to mention the brand Kite Hill, they have almond milk yogurt that is so creamy you would think its whole milk yogurt. Definitely my favorite dairy alternative for yogurt. They also have an Almond milk Brie cheese that is good but not as soft as a regular Brie.

Almond milk is my favorite milk substitute. Coconut bliss is my favorite dairy free ice cream. We have some really delicious allergen free bakeries nearby. I'm not hard and fast dairy free but I do have to limit it.
