Custon Wedding Band $$$

Amanda, on June 14, 2019 at 3:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

Alright ladies, this is gonna make me sound like a total penny pinching miser (as I could tell by my mom's reaction).

My fiance got my engagement ring at Kay Jewlers. I LOVE it, it's gorgeous and very me, he did an amazing job. Now time for band shopping! My ring didn't come with a matching band, so Kay gives the option of custom bands. When I went in to get my ring checked for the warranty, I asked for how much a custom white gold band would be for my ring, just gold no diamonds. Got a quote of $800, which already made me cringe but I was like ok its a wedding ring and custom shaped. THEN, I asked to try on a straight white gold band. I liked the fit so I asked how much that one was... $100. IDK if it's just me but I can NOT justify an extra $700 just to get my band to lay against my engagement ring when I'm already getting them soldered together.

What about you gals? did you go with a custom band? Also if you have a band that doesn't go with your engagement ring please post pics!

I would save the $$ if you’re happy with the $100 option. I’m lucky, mine came as a set with two bands.

I would go with the 100 option if you are happy with it. We got lucky with mine when we went ring shopping for my engagement ring I found a band I liked right away that matched and was actually on clearance so we got a good deal on it plus more off when my FH bought them together.

If your happy with the cheaper option then go with it. You are the only one who needs to like it. I had my band made to match my engagement ring because mine also didn’t come with a band, but it’s not for everyone.

If you're happy with the $100 option then go for it! If you want a custom band, go to a local jeweler. Chain stores don't want custom work, they want to sell you what they have in stock. My band was $1,000 cheaper at the jeweler that made my e-ring than at Jared's. Crazy!

Yeah I was going to do that, but I have a lifetime warranty on my engagement ring and I had a feeling that soldering a ring from somewhere else to it would probably void that... sad Smiley sad

If you like the fit, go for the cheaper option! My engagement ring also didn't come with a matching band and has a unique shape. I did not like the visible gaps with the engagement ring and straight band, so I opted for the custom ring. It cost me $530 to get it custom made. Attached is a picture of the matching set after I got the wedding band.

I had to do a custom band to fit my ring. My jeweler told me to go to www.twobirtch.com
I was able to have them do a custom band at half the price of the jewelry stores. They are definitely worth looking into and their customer service is amazing.

My e-ring doesn’t have a matching band. I picked the band I liked most. You’re the one that has to wear the ring so buy what you like most!

Do whatever makes you happy! I didn't even get my band at the same store where my husband got my engagement ring.

My engagement ring was custom made by my FH. No wedding band came with it. I went and looked at wedding bands and this was the only one I had to see! It was like it was meant to be. The small diamonds are the exact same cut and size as the ones on my engagement ring! And the wedding band itself was only $350! Ultimately, you want to be happy with what you chose. You’re going to be wearing it every day. Go with what you want and what’s most comfortable for you.

That's gorgeous! It looks made for your ring! I'll have to look at some of the other bands to see if I can get as lucky as you

If you have a Jewelry Exchange by you, I highly recommend them! They’re reasonably priced, and they are willing to negotiate! Also, their jeweler is onsite! So any work you need done to your ring happens right there! My ring was sized in 10 minutes and we were out the door nice and quick!

If it something fairly simple, slight curve, check out some local jewelers. We went to one and they could put a slight curve into a plain band for fairly cheap, I don’t remember how much because I didn’t go that route. And the use the ering in the process to make sure it’s an exact fit.

I'm actually getting a whole different ring. It's custom through Staghead Designs. I always feel like the engagement band combination rings are too bulky on my hand.
If you like the little band go for it.

That’s an insane price. My curved custom band with diamonds was $500, I can’t believe a plain gold band would be $700! Unfortunately you’re correct that if you get a band elsewhere soldered on it will likely void your warranty at Kay, does the straight band still work to solder? I’d maybe just get the straight band and not solder, then for an anniversary get the custom band soldered. Then you have the option of a plain band when you want one, or your whole set, or even a multi layered stack!

My E-ring was custom and had to do a custom band. There was no way any other band would go with it and be possible to solder them together. I'm happy with the decision and excited to see it when it's done. It was about $1,000 (after coupons), it's an open face band, rose gold, and diamonds. I've been without my E-ring for two months now and hopefully getting it back next week! I definitely spent way too much on FH's wedding band though. Hahaha. I definitely understand not wanting to spend the extra money, so if you are happy with the cheaper one, go for it!

Get what you like! If that's a thin gold band, there's nothing wrong with that. Don't let someone else talk you into an expensive decision. That said, if you want the curve, maybe look at the other curved bands Kay has available to see if there's one that fits pretty close, even if it's not "a matching set." They seem to have a selection online.

I'm usually a penny-pincher but we're dropping some real money on my band to have it custom made to fit around my custom-made E-ring, which includes an heirloom stone from his grandmother. The band will include stones. My thought is that I intend to wear these rings for the rest of my life so I'm OK with spending the money on it.

FH picked a very simple and inexpensive band because that's what made him happy (and he never wears jewelry so there's a good chance of it getting banged up lol).
