Custom wedding dress?

Debbie, on January 30, 2022 at 11:22 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 5
Hey y’all! I’m having my dress custom made. It’s a fusion of two different dresses that I love in a mermaid style. My wedding is in August 2022 and the designer is saying I won’t have the dress until July 2022. Is this enough time? Is anyone else having their dress custom made? If so, how long before the wedding will it be complete?

Everyone is saying I should get a backup dress. Now I’m super nervous!

How many fittings are you having with your designer in that time? Have they taken your measurements and are they producing a bespoke item fitted to you? If so, then I think that's fine - the main reason you'd need your dress earlier is because of time for alterations, but if your dress is bespoke, it shouldn't need to be altered, so if you're regularly meeting with the person and fitting the dress to you, then I don't think you should have any issues.

My custom dress (mash up of three dresses) will be done towards the middle of April - two months before our mid June wedding. If you have your dress by early July and know the timeframe for alterations turn around, I think you will be fine! 😊

Ok I’m feeling a little bit better about it now! Wedding is in late August so there is decent buffer time I guess. Thanks! 😀

I just spoke to my bridal boutique yesterday and they said it just depends on where you get your fittings from/ how much alterations you need. They recommend 30-60 days but that is just depending if your seamstress is busy/ has time/ how much work is done. If you aren't doing much and just shortening/ fitting it/ getting a bustle-- I would send some requests to local seamstresses who can guarantee a fast alteration Smiley smile 30 days seems like it would be enough. Mine is coming in about 40 ish days before the wedding and I'm not too worried as I've contacted local seamstresses to get an estimate on time and most can rush here
