Cruelty-free acne products that work?

SneakyWinker, on July 28, 2014 at 7:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

Several months ago, I switched to only using products that are not tested on animals. So far, it's been great. But, a few weeks ago, I started breaking out, just on my chin (I blame wedding stress!). Before I go out and randomly buy a product, I wanted to see if any of you guys have experience with good cruelty-free acne face wash or spot treatment.

Thanks!

I wash my face with Dove Sensitive Skin. If I'm having a breakout, after my shower, I use witch hazel, and follow with Eucerin fragrance free moisturizer.

I don't believe any of those test on animals (obv not witch hazel!).

My skin isn't too bad anymore though, and this keeps it pretty good. Avoid any products with fragrance (unscented isn't the same thing) - it can dry out and mess up your skin.

Lush products are great to try. Especially Grease Lightening. Try plain ol' Witch Hazel or Tea Tree Oil for spot treatments.

^ I also came to post lush. I love lush everything , they take a huge stand against animal testing.

Try coal face. It's my favorite and a $10 bar lasts SOO long

I'm not sure if Proactiv tests on animals, but I highly highly recommend Proactiv plus. It's been working miracles on my face

Jumping onto the Lush bandwagon. (huzzah for making a stand against animal testing, I salute you!!) When I have a bad breakout, I actually use Ocean Salt on the trouble spots. It's a little harsh when scrubbed on the face so be gentle and let it rest for a couple of minutes. It does wonders.

FYI-- Proactiv doesn't test on animals, but they are not strictly vegan products, in case you're concerned about that.

Anything with 10% benzoyl peroxide works for me-- if you can find a cruelty-free company that makes a product with that as the first ingredient, that would be my advice. . .

I was getting a lot of break outs on my chin as well. I have started using a Turmeric paste on my face and I haven't had a breakout since. I use turmeric powder, gram flour, honey, and add some milk to make the paste.

I use Proactiv Plus. It works okay, but I've never found a great product, not even prescription. In the last few days, I've started using organic apple cider vinegar as a toner. Someone suggested it on this site. I mixed 50/50 with water. I can see the dead skin roll off. No miracles yet, but I do feel that it's doing something.

So guys....let me edumucate you for a sec. My MOH works as a biologist and chemist in a lab and she does test on animals. I asked her about this once, because cruelty-free is becoming the next big thing. She said every single product you purchase has been tested on animals, even if they advertise it hasn't, because there is no way around it. Those that say they don't just mean they don't test the FINAL product on animals. They still do animal testing before final product goes to market.

Also, my MOH told me that most lab animals are treated like gold. Maybe that doesn't mean much, but it makes sense to me, because they don't want to compromise the integrity of the tests, so these animals need to be in the best shape and care as possible. Animal testing is very highly regulated by the federal government.

Buy a clarisonic. Your skin will be acne free and glow glow glow! Doubtful that they test on animals at any stage, LOL! : )

Just like other ladies mentioned....LUSH for sure. Try Grease Lightning for spot treating, and Ultrabland for a cleaner. They work awesome together

Ooops! Apple cider vinegar. Unfortunately it doesn't smell as good as apple cider.

SunshineJenn, this is a load of bull! Lol. Your information is simply outdated. That used to be the case in the 90's but certainly not today.

There are indeed cruelty-free products today. Some companies work only with safe ingredients that don't require ANY MORE animal-testing. These companies do not test finished products NOR ingredients, and do not hire third party companies to test ingredients on animals.

To SneakyWinker: I suggest Murad! They're cruelty-free and have a very nice range of products for acne-prone skin. It depends what works for you: some people respond well to hydrogen peroxide, some to salicylic acid (BHA). I would try BHA products first since it's less harsh.

Murad is available at Sephora and I highly recommend them, but there are other cruelty-free skincase brands. This is a list of popular brands: http://www.crueltyfreekitty.com/full-list-of-cruelty-free-brands/
