Credit card for wedding expenses?

Has anyone else used a rewards credit card to pay their vendors? I'm thinking of applying for the capital one venture card to earn miles for our honeymoon. You earn miles on everything and if you spend $3000 on the first three months, you get 40,000 miles. I have no idea what that equates to but I can pay my photographer and make a venue payment and I'll be at the 3000. I'm not planning on going into debt, I'll pay it off every month from my wedding savings account. Has anyone done this and is it worth it?

I'm using my JetBlue card for everything I can and it's paying for our flights to Grenada for the honeymoon! Smiley smile I also think it'll end up paying for my flights home for my bridal shower and bachelorette... I'm putting a lot of shit on this cc. :\

The chase sapphire has the biggest signing bonus and the best points for travel. They convert point for point to Southwest, Hyatt, and many many more travel rewards. It also is the only Visa that does not charge you transaction fees for converting foreign currency, so if you plan on going out of the country for your honeymoon you will benefit greatly from that.

I play the credit card reward game and extensively research my best options. So long as you have the money in the bank and are using credit cards as a payment mechanism I 100% agree with you to get a new card.

Yeah, we did this. I think we use Citi Thank You. But, as long as you pay the card, it's a good move.

We haven't. And probably wouldn't. I guess this could work IF you pay off the balance before interest builds.

I have enough debt. We are paying cash for our wedding related items, including vendors

I pay everything with a credit card because the rewards are literally free money. And you don't have to do anything for the free money except swipe the appropriate card. Why not take advantage of that? However, if you suck with managing your money it's not a great idea because paying interest cancels out the reward benefit. I pay my balance every month, so it's no biggie.

I think it's a great idea, not only for your wedding, but for life too, IF you have the discipline to pay it off every month.

We used the Hilton HHonors Amex that Hubby already had. We paid it off every month and by the time the honeymoon came we had enough points for 5 days in Waikiki FREE!

As long as you pay it off every month and dont get charged any interest i think its fine.

Yes, using a Southwest Rewards card. Looking to earn the 110,000 points to earn companion pass for free companion travel. Charge everything and pay it off each month.

Yes, we got the Capitol One Venture card and use it for everything and then pay it off that month. We have almost 90,000 points, so it should cover our flights to Hawaii completely.

Yes! We did this with the chase sapphire preferred. We do the same with paying it off every month. We've gotten a lot of rewards points back and are able to book flights/hotels, etc from the chase website or we could redeem it for gift cards/cash back. Also, the rewards don't expire as long as the card is open.

Not only for the wedding, I live this way all the time. I have an American Airlines Citi card and Hilton Amex. I use them for everything I do, all the time. Not only does it help earn status with Hilton and AA, I have used points and miles for tons of "free" trips. I always say I don't use cash because it's way to expensive (to miss all those rewards)! You do need discipline to pay things in full every month and to remember that a CC is not a license to buy things you can't afford or don't need. Other than that, I am always confused by people who don't take advantage of rewards programs.

We do this with everything we buy. We use our Chase Sapphire for literally everything we can to get the points, and then we split the balance every month and pay it off completely. DH opened the card, and we were able to get a ton of bonus points for adding me as a second user. We've had the card for a couple years now, and our goal is to fly to Australia for free one day!

We use Chase Freedom for the points and cash back. But like everyone else, we make sure it's paid off within 30 days.

I have the capital one venture card and it is AMAZING. In a year, I earned enough points to pay for almost all of our honeymoon airfare...almost 3k free for things I would have purchased anyway.

If you are able to pay it off right away I don't see any problem with using a rewards credit card for the wedding, it's free money. I didn't even have to pay interest on my purchases because I would pay my card off immediately after making a purchase.

My FH and I are planning on using credit cards with perks to pay for the wedding - whatever we can afford immediately we'll pay for right away, but I know the venue (which also provides catering) will have a hefty bill that we'll need credit for.

We both got the Capital One Venture card and both got AA CitiCard, and paid for most of our honeymoon that way. We paid for our flights to and from Maui, our rental car, and will have enough points accrued by the time we leave to pay for lots of excursions and dinners. You get the most rewards by redeeming travel related purchases, so I would save up your points and use them to redeem charges from your honeymoon. We also paid for the trolley we rented for our wedding day since all vehicle rentals are considered travel related. You can also credit your account for non-travel related purchases, but you get much less back. I would totally take advantage!

We got the Chase Sapphire as soon as we got engaged. All but $400 (accommodations were originally $2200) of our honeymoon accommodations was covered by the points that we racked up. I think they changed the bonus amount recently but we got it when it was 100,000 extra bonus points if you spend $4K in 3 months. We have continued to use ours and plan to save the points for a trip or two next year. Definitely pay off the balance though as others have mentioned.

Yup. We use a card to pay for everything. Luckily all of our vendors accept credit cards - if not, we would have gone with someone else. Who requires cash or checks in 2017? We pay it off every month and collect miles for every $ spent. It also has free trip insurance, so we're using it to pay for our honeymoon as well.
