Crease in wedding dress???

Jacquelyn, on August 16, 2011 at 8:52 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

Ok, i don't know what else to call it but about 3 inches below my chest kind of where i bend my dress seems to "crease" or look like it bunches up at all times. Is there something I can do, or wear underneath to make this go away? It makes me feel totally fat!

Do you have a picture of what you are describing? It might help us know what the problem could be Smiley smile

Can you talk to a seamstress, that is where I would start.

Have you tried a bustier (sp?)? It will actually smooth everything out with the boning under the bust and through the waist. It may not be as comfortable with one when you're sitting, but you can try it out to see how it works. I know that it works for me...

Beautiful dress first off and if she can take it in a little that will probably help, but it does not make you look fat by any means!!

Looks great. But I understand what you are talking about- I remember trying on dresses that the clerks said looked great but I just saw the flaws. Almost looks like it needs to be pulled down a little?

I pull it down or up and it looks ok, but then just goes to where my natural fit is ti seems and does it again. So yeah, alterations would probably do wonders!

I know you want your dress to be perfect (who doesn't?) but honestly, nobody is going to notice but you. Beautiful dress!

Beautiful dress, and I do see what you mean about the crease, I agree that maybe a seamstress could help.

I am a wedding seamstress. I think you need a corset bra with a lot of lift. What are you wearing underneath your gown in the picture?

I've had that happen to me a few times because I am short. Dresses are sometimes made for someone with a longer torso. Also, it might help to have it taken in in the bust or have cups added, to hold the bust part of the dress at the right height so that it doesn't bunch. Your best bet would be to take it to a seamstress who can work with the dress to make it fit you.

The boneing in the dress is maybe a little to long for your torso which would create the ridge where the crease forms. or the dress is a little too tight around the hip area and the dress is compensating for comfort by making the crease. Take it to a seamstress who specializes in wedding gown alterations to be sure, but I think the dress has to be let out a little at the hip. ps dress is georgous!!!

You guys are all correct! I am tall but have a really short torso (ugh!) I have a somewhat skinny rib cage then BAM! HIPS! I'm headed to an amazing lady who does wedding dress alterations on Saturday so hopefully she can work some wonders!

And hoping that the sewn in bra cups will help out in that department as well, which also makes me upset because I am not small chested but the dress covers them up pretty well! haha.

That is weird... but a good seamstress should be able to let out hips a bit, it just looks like it's catching there. And maybe take in the waist.

I agree with Liz P, I think the boning definitely has something to do with it. See if a seamstress can let it out a little bit in the hips.

I'm a fashion designer and wedding seamstress as well, and the problem is not your undergarments /bustier. There is simply too much fabric in the length of the torso (you do have a short torso- and the same body type as me!). You need to have the seamstress open the seams and take out about 1/2" -1" of the front length, maybe she can smooth it up under the bust line. Only problem is, this will be very difficult with that beaded fabric and all the trims. If your seamstress can't do it your best bet is to get a bustier that REALLY lifts you up, to elongate your torso length under your bust.

    Hope that helps!

I got mine at David's Bridal and it was on sale...it has boning in it and kind of pushes everything up. Good Luck Smiley smile
