Hey guys!

My wedding is scheduled for June 12th. My fiance is in the military on orders right now, very unsure if he will be back in time now due to this virus. If his training gets delayed we obviously cannot have our wedding in June. Are venues being reasonable if you need to cancel due to this virus? are they willing to give you your deposits back?

I am very conflicted if i should cancel or postpone?

HELP!

My venue has it in their contract that we would lose our deposit should we cancel or change dates. However when i reaches out last week, they advised that we can switch dates with no penalty. I have been hearing that venues are accommodating with postponing but not cancelling.

Hope your fiancé is able to return on time.

We are june 14 and we reached out to our venue. They wont let us decide to postpone until April 30th. However with your fiance being in the military im sure they would more than likely let you postpone sooner. Most venues are being accommodating from what i've seen other brides post.

I have had both responses to canceling. Some vendors gave us the deposit back and others are not so generous. They are banking on people who actually can postpone which is not you or myself currently. My fiance is set to deploy within 6 months but between this mess and not knowing his deployment workup at a new duty station(yes, we have to move across country too), we have no date that would be safe for us to plan another wedding. Unfortunately, his orders hold no value with vendors. So, I would hold off until you know more about how this situation might affect you. I also wouldn't give your vendors another dime in the process. Many vendors won't pay back a deposit but we also are seeing brides and grooms who are receiving no money back if they originally paid in full which is even more awful. At this time I would hold off on hiring/planning and work towards figuring out his deployment schedule. The movement ban for troops is set to be lifted on May 11th but I would error on the side of caution and not trust that until I see orders that state movement is allowed.

Absolutely look at your contract, and also start talking to them NOW. We have no idea when these restrictions are going to lift, so they may be more accommodating... particularly if they lift earlier than expected, and someone else can take your date.

Hi Erin! In general it sounds like most vendors are being really accommodating with rescheduling your plans for a later date, but can't refund original deposits for cancellations (unless otherwise stipulated in your contract). Planning around your fiance's schedule definitely adds another layer of difficulty!
