covid Wedding Invitations advice

Rre567, on June 26, 2020 at 12:43 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15
I live in CA and in a county where were being closely watched due to high spikes in cases. We have sent out save the dates already and ORIGINALLY we were going to send out formal invites 6 weeks to the wedding being that everyone is local. HOWEVER, with COVID & everything constantly changing my hope is dwindling that we’ll be married in Sept. I had hopes that COVID would’ve lessened by then but right now I just can’t see any light as the end of the tunnel. My fiancé and I are waiting until we would be sending out the invites to decide if we’re going to postpone it or still send ‘em out . My question is, traditionally invites are sent 6-8 weeks but how far do y’all think I can PUSH the invites to determine if we’re going to go through with it or not? Is 6 weeks really all I have?

I think you could push it further like 4 weeks, maybe. But I wouldn’t try anything closer to that.

CA bride here too! I'm getting married in October and plan to send my invites about 2 months before, but I agree I think pushing it to 4 weeks, maybe even 3, is the closest you can go. Luckily all your guests are local so I think that should be fine.

I'm also nervous since things are changing everyday, but I'm trying to stay hopeful. Our venue seems pretty positive that we'll be okay since our guest list is so small.

I’d say 4-6 weeks (4 weeks at the very least). Despite your guests being local, I think you should still be considerate of their time and schedules by not “pulling the plug” on them at the last minute.

When does your caterer need the final headcount? I would factor that in and think that it can take a week, etc. for guests to even receive invitations by mail, and then to turn around and mail them back to you...

Here’s another option, we mailed invitations as we already had them printed, and printed an insert explaining that if we decide to make any changes with plans that we would do our best to notify guests by such-and-such a date.

6 weeks is as far back as I can push mine because I owe counts to vendors.

About 40-45 people. I honestly don't plan on postponing at this point and I'm going to push through. As long as I have my family and his family with us that's all that we want, and they've been very supportive. We do have a plan b though, and that's if our venue decides to close on us, so we'll just move everything to our backyard. I know each county is different and kind of setting up their own rules and regulations. Which county are you located?

So our “caterer” we’re having is actually a taco guy. So there’s no specific headcount it just a range depending on the party size. And as far as invites, though it may be “tacky” or what have you were requesting rsvp through other means like reaching out via phone, text, messenger, etc.

What is your venue saying? I honestly don't think the police will come as long as you are all following the county's guidelines and regulations, i.e. social distancing, masks, etc... My venue is a restaurant so we are just following the guidelines for restaurants.

I don’t think it’s tacky, it makes sense that you could opt to push it even closer...say within 4 weeks considering your taco guy doesn’t need a specific headcount and you’re doing RSVP’s this way. Smiley smile

Do you have a wedding website?

If you've already ordered your invites, I say send them and put a note on your website that a final decision will be made closer to the date if necessary. Because of the Covid timeframe, you could think things are perfect 4 weeks out and the week of cases could blow up and things could shut down. There is really no way to be certain what things will be like with the amount of advanced notice one typically needs when planning a wedding.

We sent out invitations literally the week in March where everything went crazy. Invites went in the mail on Monday when life was normal and by Friday most of our area was shutting down. We waited until the day or two after our RVSPs were due (about a month before our wedding) to make a call about canceling. Fortunately we did virtual STDs so I had everyone's email address and we were able to communicate with our guests really quickly. We kept our website updated (created a special Covid-19 section for guests) and also emailed everyone right away once we made a decision. All of our guests were super understanding.
