Covid and Wedding Dress storage

Meaghan, on August 12, 2020 at 9:43 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

Hi everyone,

My original wedding date was 10/10/2020 in DC with 150 guests. My fiance and I recently decided to postpone the big celebration to 10/2/2021. We are going to be having a small ceremony with parents out in Shenandoah mountains on our original date, and I'm wearing a much more casual white dress. However, my beautiful Enaura gown just arrived at Kleinfeld and now I need to store it until next year.

They suggest I do not try on the gown or even open the box until my first fitting. I can't imagine waiting a year to try on this dress but I don't want to start fittings a year in advance.

Additionally, I want to make sure it is stored properly over the next year.

Curious what other COVID brides are doing with their dresses?

Mine has to be stored for two years now. We postponed from July 2020 to July 2022. So I'm keeping mine in its garment bag in a dark closet, and I plan to check on it once every couple months or so. From what I hear, it takes years for it to yellow if it's not preserved, so I think mine should be fine. I'm not sure if that's different for other fabrics, though the dress shop or a seamstress would know best. I do recommend keeping it in a darker space in its bag/box.

If you keep it in the garment bag or box it comes in I don’t think it will yellow. Ive my dress for over two years now and it’s not yellowed at all

My dress has been in its bag in the back of my closet for over a year now, well right now it’s at the seamstress, but... I put it on several times during the year I was storing it too, couldn’t help it lol! I wouldn’t put it on anywhere it could get dirty, but otherwise I’m not sure why they would say not to even try it on before you go to the seamstress.
