Covid 19 wedding

Hithere, on April 28, 2021 at 10:20 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
So far we’ve been planning our wedding as we normally would’ve before covid 19, we’re only planning for 100 guests for September 25, 2021. Today we got the message from our venue I’ve been dreading though. Current mandates will only allow for 25 guests. They told us they hope the mandates will be lifted by September but the closer the date gets I’m losing hope for a “normal” wedding. So I’m curious as to what everyone is doing to change their plans for covid? Are you going ahead and planning normally still? Are you going for the cut and not inviting everyone? What should we be taking into consideration? If and when should I let people know we have to cut down on guest count (thinking of everyone that’ll need to book flights and want to let them know before they do so)? Thank you!!

Wow I’m sorry for this! 25 guests seems very little! Is it based on the capacity for your venue, or is 25 the limit for your state?
I would say, from here until September, a lot can happen. I started planning in August and our original 280 wedding is now 150. I had no hopes. Just in January I still had no hopes of even getting to 100.. but, vaccines, mandates... a lot can get better. I would say if you want to go ahead no matter what, make a list of your 25 if it came down to it. Prepare yourself for the worst but hope for the best!!

Where are you located? I'm in VA and our governor just announced for May the indoor limits will open up to 100 and outdoor limits will open up to 250. He has hopes all capacity limits can be removed in June. I highly doubt you'll need to worry about that mandate still being in place by September with everyone getting vaccinated. But we recently went through the same thing waiting to see what would happen for our May wedding. We originally had 150 guests, but we cut it down to 115 and sent out the invites with 100 saying yes. If I were you, I would keep planning for normal and keep track of the mandate changes in the upcoming months. If we needed to make further cuts, we were going to do so in early April. We felt like that was plenty of time, but we also don't have anyone flying in.

I’m so sorry girl! My heart goes out to you. I completely understand the struggle. We were dealing with the exact same thing. Nearly half of our guests will be traveling for our wedding, so we just couldn’t figure out when to let people know there was a possibility the guest list would need to be cut. We didn’t want people to spend money on travel plans, then not be able to get refunded for them. And we also didn’t want to ask people to hold their (personal and professional) calendars open for us “just in case we could invite them”, then have to scramble to make travel arrangements. There just didn’t seem to be a good way to handle it. So, ultimately, we decided to just postpone until the middle of 2022.

That’s good to know thank you! We’re in Michigan which one of the highest of cases currently and our governor is taking it very seriously which is good but also not good for wedding planning lol just keeping my fingers crossed it’s lifted by September 🤞

Yeah it seems so stressful having to let everyone know, like I’m seriously dreading it. I’m glad you were able to post pone though and hopefully everything is much better by then for you! We’ve been together for almost 10 years and have been engaged for two so postponing didn’t seem logical for us we’re just ready to be married lol 😂

Ohhh yeah I saw things were ticking up there again. Hopefully the tighter restrictions now will help cases go down before your wedding. I know how stressful this all is, so I really hope it all works out for you!

Like the others said a lot can change before September. I’d keep planning for normal and when it’s time to send out invitations adjust the guest count based on the latest information you have. Best of luck!

I'm surprised that you're still only allowed 25, but I did see you mentioned being in a place where cases are rising. Our governor announced that basically there will be no limits anymore come May 19th, but we've been really proactive about people getting vaccinated and everyone taking caution, so our numbers are fairly low. I think you shouldn't panic yet, because September is a while away and I'm reading everywhere that they expect things to get much better come this summer across the US. What we did as a precaution is we directed everyone to our wedding website where we post updates on what is going on. We still sent our Save the Dates to our full list and just told people that we may have to cut back on plus ones and even some guests and people were very understanding.

I would make two lists, one with 25 people and one with your original 100. I think it's too soon to make a call for September and restrictions could definitely change, so be prepared for both scenarios.
