Covid-19 Brides forced to reschedule: How are you honoring your original wedding date?

Kari, on May 13, 2020 at 11:36 AM Posted in Community Conversations 1 2

We've postponed our wedding until next year, going from a 10 month engagement to 23 months! We've considered eloping on our original date, but I'm now thinking with the restrictions in place it would feel too much like a compromise and not be what we want the day we marry to feel like, so may just wait it out. I do want to honor our original date somehow. Much of our state is still shut down, so we are needing to find something low key we can do together at home or outside.

What creative ways have you come up with to honor your original wedding date if you've decided to push off your nuptials?

Well, we push out our formal/big ceremony to next year, and moved up a date of a much smaller wedding a week earlier than planned. Since the resort we were originally supposed to stay at over the weekend of our original wedding date (July 17-22) is re-opening at the end of May, we are planning to keep our hotel room reservation for that weekend and treat it as a mini-honeymoon - since our original plan to go to Bali isn't looking very likely to happen (I'm waiting for the airlines to either cancel our tickets, or extend their dates when passengers can reschedule without penalty).

Also for our big wedding next year, planning to use our "guestbook", a framed canvas for guests to sign, with our original wedding date on it. It'll be a story and memento of our journey to getting married.
