Covering up venue carpet... help!

Jaclyn, on July 25, 2019 at 12:08 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 19
I booked my wedding venue at Lake Tahoe and I am becoming growingly concerned that my rustic decoration vision will look like rustic threw up in a corporate meeting space :—( I had an idea to get a classy dancefloor (dark wood maybe?) make it as large as possible and layering vintagey rustic rugs througout to cover up the ugly carpet. Does anybody have experience doing this? I always imagined a more rustic lodge feel but the view of this ballroom is unbeatable. I just wish I had more of a blank canvas!

My venue has horrible carpeting like this as well, and I was super annoyed about it/stressed about it for awhile, but honestly I have gotten to the point where I just don't think it really matters. No one is going to be focused on the carpeting! Brides that post their BAM's always say how things like this that they stressed about ended up not even mattering the day of! I think a large dance floor would be great, but buying more rugs to try and cover up the carpet would probably just be overkill.

Honestly your venue pic looks so pretty I don't even notice the carpet at all. Especially because I guess with all the tables and chairs the amount of carpet showing isn't much

Honestly... nobody is going to notice the carpet. Save yourself the money from trying to cover it.

Also if you're that concerned decorate in a way that draws the eye up.

Honestly, I don’t think I would stress over the carpet. When the tables and chairs are up, and the guests are in the venue, you won’t even really notice the carpet. 😊 A dance floor would be nice, but I wouldn’t add rugs on top of carpet.

Nobody is going to notice the carpet. Really. Spend your energy and your money somewhere else, because this is one of those super minor details that brides get all fussed over, and nobody notices on the day.

I agree with Chandra, decorate up, so your guests' eyes will be drawn upwards.

WHY DO VENUES DO THIS!? No one has ever stepped foot into a ballroom and said “This room is pretty but it’s missing a swirly, patterned carpet.” I’ve never understood it! But I do agree with one of the PP. I don’t think anyone will notice. I say go with the wooden dance floor but skip the rugs. I imagine it would be pretty expensive to do and if you didn’t cover the entire space then it would just be more mismatched carpet. You won’t even notice it on your day! Beautiful space!

They do it because it hides stains well, lol! But agreed, so ugly.

Ugh yes that's the thing with casino room venues (mine is also being held in a casino venue) is the carpet! But the photo you provided looks like it is a gorgeous space and nobody will even notice it

I agree with all of the PPs not to lay any more rugs. Aside from the fact that no one will notice your floor, the rugs you put down could become a tripping hazard.

Okay that carpet is VERY oddly colored vs the rest of the space I completely understand why it's bothering you! I think a wood dancefloor will cover it up and there probably won't be enough room between tables to really notice it. I don't think it's worth putting extra rugs out or you'd likely call more attention to it. With decorations and a dancefloor you'll be fine

I totally get it! I have been looking at various hotel venues, and will be looking at a country club venue this evening. I also can’t get past the carpet choices, as I feel that they are ugly for one, and two, they totally kill my vision.

But in all honesty, have you ever left a wedding and thought, “wow, that would have been a beautiful wedding, had it not been for the carpet! It totally killed my time there.” Lol I wouldn’t go into overkill to cover them up. 🙂 Your guests won’t be analyzing every detail of the space in the way we do when planning our weddings.

Don't even sweat that carpet, seriously! There are way, way worse ones out there!

With all the tables decorated really pretty, and all your decor and candles and flowers and pretty dresses, no one will be looking at the floor, I promise!

And honestly, that light shade of blue just might compliment a rustic theme.

When I was looking for venues, I specifically told my mother and FH how much I hated ugly carpeting in otherwise gorgeous spaces, so I feel you on this. I really wanted wood or concrete floors. In the end, I picked a venue I loved with somewhat ugly carpet that no one else noticed.

That said, I think that space is beautiful and if the view is as good as you say, everyone's going to be looking out those beautiful windows and not notice the floor, especially once it gets dark. Trying to cover it up might make it more noticeable.

If you love everything else, don't let carpet be a dealbreaker.
