Covering carpet help!

Jamie, on January 28, 2024 at 12:34 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 5
We want to have our wedding at our church but they just recently finished renovations (this includes a brand new carpet). Because of this they are asking that we do not bring food into the sanctuary. Ideally though it would be best to have our ceremony in our multipurpose room and the reception in our sanctuary because the multipurpose room that does not have carpet is not big enough for a seated dinner with our number of guests. Are there any solutions like temporary flooring/plastic covering that is relatively affordable?

I cannot think of an option that is going to be affordable and not look tacky, that your church is going to approve of. If the rule is no food in the sanctuary, then that rule should be respected. If there is no other area available for the reception, I would either start trimming the guest list to a number the room can accommodate, or start looking for another venue for the reception.

Venues including churches have rules in place for a reason. If you intend to break those rules, don’t use the venue. Also covering a carpet or tiles or any other surface is a major safety hazard and you will be responsible for any injuries resulting in doing so.

Thank you Cece! Yes, I had a feeling this idea wouldn't be feasible haha Smiley smile but just wanted to see if others on the forum found methods to address food/drink spillage that we could have brought up in discussions. We are moving forward with considering other venues, so thank you for your feedback!

Thank you Michelle for the feedback. To be clear, dinners have been hosted there in the past but that has recently changed because of the new carpet. I threw this question out there to see if there was any floor covering method to address the main concern of food and drink spillage. I wanted to gauge the feasibility of this idea so we could bring it up in discussions, knowing if they said no we would absolutely respect their wishes. I see that this idea is not feasible so we will be considering other things mentioned in this forum like venue, guest size, etc. A kinder response would have been appreciated, but thanks for your points nonetheless.

Can you put it in a contract that you would be willing to pay for professional carpet cleaning should there be any spills, etc. during your reception?
