Court house wedding ceremony....anyone ever have one?

madison, on August 10, 2010 at 9:58 PM Posted in Planning 1 24

Okay so my fiance and I decided to say the hell with my sister and just go to the court house and have a small ceremony...no party after, that way my sister cant complain but my fiance and I are still getting what we want. So my question is...

has anyone ever had a court house wedding? especially in PA?

I just want to know how to go about it and how many people we are allowed to witness?? I know we need two, but what is the maximum amount?

I'm sure there is a max. I just went one recently not in PA. They could bring 12 people together and did. Most other couples came in twos. Some were dressed up. Others in jeans. Marriage court was a basement no windows. The ceremony was with judge in small office (all 12 crammed in). Nothing like we imagined. I would just go the marriage court and check it out. Some cities have more than location, so ask.

Check with the county, we did a legal ceremony 2 weeks before the

Mexico ceremony. It wasn't in the judge's office, it was in a pretty big courtroom. So there was plenty of room for more than just 2 witnesses. Also, he was so cool, he met with us prior to the ceremony in his office and actually got to know - asked questions about our families, where we were from. It was very nice. Plus you can have the judge meet you somewhere - at home, in a nice spot somewhere in your town. It doesn't have to be at courthouse just because the judge marries you.

I am asking because it would be my mom, dad, sister x2 and brother, then his mom, dad, sister and brother then my grand parents (3) and his (5)

and that is at the least.. our parents want our grandparents there...

so thats 17 ppl so far..ugh!

My boss got married in a courthouse. He said all they had was the the judge & 2 witnesses I believe but that's here in NH (however I don't think there's much of a difference.) Either way, call whatever courthouse you're planning on getting married at & ask. Just don't forget the license!!!!

My first wedding was at the courthouse. We had a small ceremony in the courtroom with a small group of friends and family with the judge.

We did our legal ceremony in a courtroom in Saint Paul, MN last November on a Saturday (the courtroom wasnt even open to the public...judge was nice enough to open it just for us) ....required one witness on each side but could go upto two on each side about 26 people, we just had a really nice judge who even offered to take several pictures for us to include everyone who attended. One thing, she suggested not to have our parents as witnesses...saying it is too close a relation to be witnesses coz knock on wood if something happens, a mother would have a hard time not siding her son, or her daughter...

As we both have different religions, getting married in a courthouse was an easier decision that who's church we'd get married in. However, I wasn't crazy about going down to City Hall to get married.

I found a great alternative - a courthouse built in 1904 which is full of character & an officiant will be doing the service.

My husband and I did this a few months before he got deployed. He just got home about 2 weeks ago and we're having a full wedding in December.

We just had 2 witnesses, and some people don't even know were married. I definitely don't regret the early wedding, but I sometimes wish we had just told everyone and had some of our family there.

The best answer will come from the County Clerk's office where you apply for your marriage license. Every state is different - even some counties are different about how they perform ceremonies.

I am an officiant in St Louis MO who perform short, sweet and simple ceremonies. I consider what I do to be a step above a judge or civil ceremony.

I think it would be fun to dress up a little - wear a veil and bring a little bouquet of flowers. So sweet.....

Amber- A save the date HP2-T17 (STD) is similar to a wedding announcement. It typically has some of your engagement photos on it, SSCP and lets your guests know up to a year in advance that your wedding is on x date, at x city. It's very general, and just tells them to JN0-562 save that date for your wedding. It's useful for out of town 1z0-042 guests, or if your wedding in on a holiday or weekday, for example.

I wanted to share a courthouse wedding that my photographer shot-this couple had their wedding at the courthouse and a couple days later still threw a small reception. I love this idea and the pictures came out beautiful. I hope this inspires you that no matter where you get married at-it will be special!
