My fiancé and I finally got engaged after being together for 13 years! We were so excited to finally get married in front of our friends and family but COVID-19 made us put our wedding plans on hold. We were trying to postpone and the wedding venue wants to charge us extra; an extra $1,500 to be exact. I was so set on getting married on June 20, 2020 and it was tough to let go of that date and just when I did decide to postpone for the safety of our guests, the venue wants to charge us more.

Anyone else have a similar issue? We live in New York and it’s hard to say when the city will open back up plus all June events are officially canceled. The banquet manager has been so unprofessional and it put me off and I no longer want to get married there, but I’m afraid of losing all the money we’ve put down. Any advice?

Ugh. Why do they want to charge you extra? I would think that with NYC being such a trouble spot - nothing is going to be open! What does your contract say about cancellations?

I know it’s been about a month since this thread has been active, but I’m holding out hope that some of these weddings are going forward. We got engaged June 2018, and opted to wait the extra year to pick the perfect date and have first choice of all of the vendors. Who could’ve foreseen a pandemic hitting as we all were in the final stages of wedding planning ? Like all of you, the stress was just unbearable at times - the not knowing what to do or what things would look like in one, two, three months. Hopeful one day, hopeless the next. While weddings around us were getting canceled and postponed, we were just holding out hope for a small window that included June 20th. Our last hope came June 3rd, but the governor of that state kept the social gathering cap at 10. Fortunately, we were able to grab August 1, 2020 since that was the only Saturday available until the third week of November. We let all of our guests know about the date change. Sadly, not all of our vendors were going to be available. And, apparently that was the worst week we could’ve chosen because so many guests would be on vacation. Although we had all intentions of planning for August 1st, the next week the governor lifted the 10 person cap. Our venue got clearance to reopen with restrictions. So as crazy as it is, we called all of our guests and vendors and switched back to June 20. That gave us only 9 days to finalize our planning but if it means getting married on that special date- we will take it! We are so unsure what could happen with this virus so just want to make sure we can get married after two years of planning. Good luck to everyone. I hope you are busy planning and were able to keep this date!
