Costco Sheet Cake

Is it tacky to get a nice 3 tiered wedding cake from a bakery that can feed about 100 people with yummy flavors and pretty design, and then go and buy a plain sheet cake from Costco that won’t taste the same, look the same, or be of the same quality as the other cake for the other 150 guests??

I’ve never been to a wedding where a separate sheet cake was cut, but I think as long as the quality of the cake is the same as the cutting cake (not Costco!) it’s fine.

We are doing cupcakes, lol. No cutting fee!

Yes. Very tacky. You should feed your guests the same cake you eat. But the bakery can do sheet cakes for you as well.

Thank you! I appreciate your kind words. Some people need to learn some etiquette themselves when it comes to having discussions on the internet. I think having a cutting cake for yourself and cupcakes for your guests is a great idea and also sounds like a great way to save money. I wouldn’t take what others say on this site to heart too much. We’re all strangers so while we may ask each other for advice we certainly don’t have to listen to it. I do wish people would be kinder though. Good luck with your wedding planning!

Right. And I wasn't even talking to you. If you look at the quoted content, someone said they were doing cheaper cupcakes to cut cost and having a nicer cake for themselves. So, there's the fact that it wasn't even directed at you...

I think your post was pretty clear that you thought it was a bad idea. I don't think any comments are directed at you, thinking you wanted to do this. There are people who do this, and they think it's fine to tier guests and treat some better. Even down to serving the bridal party better food or giving them an open bar and other guests pay.

The quoted context is me, and I said the cupcakes would be cheaper than paying a "cake cutting fee" at the venue-- literally $500 on top of what I would be paying to have a cake just to have it "cut" is not being cheap it is about avoiding an expense that I think is impractical.
