Hi everyone. My FH and I are trying to figure out how much should we spend on wedding invitations for 130 people? We have found 2 invitations to match our colors somehow which is black, silver, and white. But the invitations are 1 has silver and black, and the other has white and black. They are pretty much the same thing, they ae both elegant, but the cost of these invites are $356.00 this ncludes the invites, and response cards, not including shipping and handling. I am wondering do we really need to spend $356.00 dollars for invities that people will probably throw away and especially for 1 day? How mych did you spend for your invitations? I need some advice, being we're about to figure out how much to spend for invites. I believe we can cut the cost down.I just feel we can save some money...Am I wrong for feeling this way?

We look on American Wedding's website and found invitations that we really liked. We went to the local print shop in our town and showed them the invitations and they duplicated them for us. We got 200 invitations for under $200. That included the invitation, outer and inner envelopes, and rsvp cards.

My wedding colors are also black, white and silver!!! I got really nice wedding invites from Costco. I can't say if the price is competitive, but we got the printed invites, response cards, reception cards, lined inside & outside envelopes and thank you notes.

I second nicole in that I did not add a ribbon or bow because it would have cost more postage wise. And correct postage is no joke with the uspostal service...they want to make their money too. You do need to factor in the postage, unless you have family and friends who are really into the internet and rsvp online, email, text message, or phone! That can get trickier if you have a huge a guestlist because it can get disorganized very quickly. But you don't...so that's totally do-able and you can forgo that rsvp postage stamp! And the rsvp card and envelope too! Savings right there.......

I felt that spending a lot on invites was silly, while a few people may keep them for sentimental reasons they are mostly to convey information. I did DIY and spent $45 total for 45 invites. That included 2 layers of cardstock, paper for an insert on which we listed the website and RSVP information, envelopes, a calligraphy pen, two scrapbooking punches to trim and embellish the cardstock so it would look more elegant, and postage. I specifically designed them so they could be mailed with a single first-class stamp. I got 4 invites out of each 8.5x11" sheet, and skipped the 3-dimensional embellishments. We also chose to do all-electronic RSVPs through the WW site, which worked GREAT!!! I highly recommend it. You can see immediately when someone has responded, rather than waiting on the mail. Save the paper and postage costs for the RSVP and go electronic!

Well I know this might sound a little cheap but they actually look REALLY nice. I got my DIY invitations from walmart. They came with the RSVP cards and env. They are simple yet a little different. They were $19 for a pack of 25. So thus far I have spend less then $60 on the invitations.

This is what I have and I am extreemly happy with them:

We used American Wedding for our invitations. We ordered them on a Sunday night, and no joke they arrived on Friday...5 days later! We liked the fast shipping! With shipping we ended up spending $316 for 75 invitations including the rsvps, thank yous, reception cards, and envelopes. We were going to do them ourselves and get the do it yourself wedding invitation kit at wal mart for $50, but we knew we did not have the time to spend on making all these invitations. I think the price could have been a little less, but our main concern was the time we would spend doing them ourselves over just doing them online in about 90 minutes, and ordering them. THey looked awesome overall and we are glad we ordered from American Wedding, but if you have the time invitations are something you can defanantly spend some money on by doing them yourself

For invites, reception card, rsvp with envelope printed with our address, all goes into one envlope that is then put into a big outer envelope that is the printed with return address, we spent probably about $700 for 200 of them. We didn't really have a budget and everyone was in agreement that the invitation sort of sets the tone for the wedding. To us they were important so we did splurge a little. But everyone loved them and we got tons of compliments! Plus all we had to do was stuff them into the envelopes.

Etsy has some great vendors offering customized, handmade wedding invitations that I've seen even lower than $3 per set (and that usually includes a response set, and sometimes assembly and extra perks like address printing, etc.):

    http://www.etsy.com/category/weddings/invitation

Sometimes you'll get a surprisingly good deal on customized invites from a smaller operation because they don't have those big marketing budgets and 100s of employees, etc.

I agree that invitations should be a very small portion of your budget (it's true - most guests will toss them after the event) but on the other hand it is the first glimpse your guests will get of your big day. I'll bet you can find a happy medium if you shop around!

Good luck - congrats and happy planning!

THis is where I just ordered my invites from, I feel the same way as others,I want them to look nice but jeez, they can be so expensive just to have people throw them away once they mark their calenders or after the event, I ordered 50 for 39.99....I also get reception cards, rsvps, place cards and return adress labels for 39.99, I ordered from her before and loved what I got, her reviews are real good also, her store is 'paper favors', she also has 100 invites for 79.99 (also includes the extras) and 75 invites for 65.99, again with all the extras, here is the site for my invites...

Hey just so you all know...Bride magazine has a 20% coupon in it (October edition) for invitations at Michaels. It expires by the end of this month. Went there yesterday and got 120 invites, envelopes, rsvp cards and reply envelopes for $99. I can still customize it so it's in my wedding colors. Another option there if you don't mind a DIY printing kit...templates are included though. Smiley smile

Hi my name is Nicola Haggins and I am the founder of Destine 2 Design (A budget friendly Invitation company that allows the customer to set their prices.) I invite you to visit my website www.destine2design.com we would love to design a one of a kind for you with your budget…

When I was looking for wedding invitations I realized that some invitations were either too expensive or lacked exactly what I wanted my invites to look like.

I also noticed it was very expensive to customize invitations. So I ended up creating my own. I decided to start my own invitation company, because I noticed that almost all the Invitation Companies out there lacked caring about the Clients budget.

The thought of turning someone away because the invitation is too expensive seems crazy to me.

That's when I came up with Budget invitations...Where the client sets the price of the invitation they would like by setting their budget first.

This way every client can get a custom invitation, and it will be affordable for them.

Look forward to working with you and my Design team…Smooches!

I represent Carlson Craft invitations/Save the Dates. I called customer service last week for another matter and found out they have a Budget line starting at $39.60 PRINTED for 100 invitations. Given the fact that I address any invitations you order from me for FREE, I think that's a FANTASTIC deal! Check out www.tampacalligraphy.com. Click on Carlson Craft and type budget in where it says product search.

I would say about $1.50 per invite, but it really depends on if you are having them designed or doing it yourself. I just looked up wedding invitations on the internet for ideas of what to do. I designed them myself but if your not so inclined or don't know anyone who can, you can hire a designer. Taking them to a printer yourself is also generally cheaper.

    Good Luck!
