Coronavirus.... thinking of postponing wedding

Rachel, on March 12, 2020 at 3:50 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16
Our wedding is on 3/21 we have 80 guests .... 60 of which are flying in from all over.

We are thinking about postponing it until the Fall- what do you guys think???

I can’t believe this is happening

Are any of your guests traveling from areas with confirmed cases? I wouldn't want to lose deposits and put my guests in a position to lose money on travel this close to the wedding. Unless you or your FS are elderly or immunocompromised, I would continue as planned and let guests decide what they want to do.

Okay well that’s a good response they seem to be working with you all. Are a lot of guest coming from out of town ??????
    Or mostly local
That’s I’ll be the main basis for your decision

I hate to be a jerk but unless you or your FH has the virus I would not cancel anything. Regardless of money lost but just because the day is about you two. If people cannot travel then it sucks but oh well. You deserve to have your day.

Your venue is willing to work with you, but are all your other vendors? I personally would continue on because at the end of the day, getting to marry your future spouse should be the goal.

With it being this close, I would continue as planned just understand that some of your guests may not be allowed to make the trip because of travel restrictions.

Even if you can reschedule your guests will be out change fees even if they can switch (some may have bought fully refundable). I’d definitely ask a majority of your guests there thoughts.

GIRL I am so sorry. Smiley sad So, so sorry. Talk to your vendors asap and sort out what you can do to reschedule. Did they offer you any other plans? Ugh this is so terrible.

My wedding is late May and I dont know if I should be worried or not. All of my family will be flying in, some from CA and WA.I feel like it's too soon to think about postponing but I also dont want to wait until the last minute. What did you decide to do?

We are likely moving our early may wedding to fall since our vendor will allow it. let me know what you decide!

We postponed our March 28 celebration and are going to wait a few weeks to see how the situation develops before picking a new date. Most guests are relieved and our vendors are being very helpful/understanding. I think everyone, including airlines, just want to mitigate the disaster and keep what business they have even if it means not providing the actual service until later. We were insanely stressed for the past week but once we made the decision, we felt a weight lift off our shoulders. My parents are in their 70’s and traveling far to come to the wedding, so nothing was worth putting their health at risk, especially since we were able to reschedule vendors without losing deposits. (FWIW We’re in DC where there are already cases and sure to be more.) Good luck to everyone out there and stay healthy!
