Coronavirus affecting anyone’s honeymoon?

Christine, on March 9, 2020 at 9:45 PM Posted in Honeymoon 3 80
Hi future brides. I am wondering if the coronavirus is interfering with your honeymoon plans?

My best friend is getting married in sept and she hasn’t yet booked anything in terms of honeymoon out of anxiety of not knowing how this will play out so I told her it’s ok for her to wait a couple more months before she really needs to book or to get some travel insurance add on to feel assured

Yup! Had booked a month-long honeymoon to Hong Kong, Bali, Singapore, Japan and Hawaii.

Half of our flights got canceled by the airlines. The remaining flights—we had to beg AMEX to waive our change/cancellation fees. We were able to change our honeymoon to Australia, Fiji and New Zealand. One of our Bali hotels was pre-paid and they would not refund us, they would only let us postpone the trip by a year so we decided to do the Asia trip early next year when things have calmed down.

I haven’t heard for sure, but we have paid for an all-Inclusive in Mexico in April. So we’re just watching at this point. I think as long as the reports stay open we’ll still go. Don’t think I splurged for trip insurance 😫 so we’re probably stuck.

Yep.. we get married next weekend and are supposed to be going on a cruise to Mexico, Grand Cayman & Jamaica on the 22nd.. leaving from Galveston as of right now we are in the clear but we are praying we will be in the clear to go in two weeks.. we haven’t traveled in over a year to plan for this moment so I hope it’s not ruined.

We are waiting awhile to see how things play out to book anything. We are planning to go to a few countries in Europe so don’t want to risk buying tickets and things get worse.

Not as of yet, but I've got an eye on the news. We haven't travelled for vacation in awhile, so this was going to be our dream trip to Hawaii. Hopefully we're still clear to go - and married - on April 6th!

Many of the airlines are waiving fees to change flights up to a certain point. We have roundtrip tickets to france booked with points, and AirFrance said we can actually cancel up until the day we are scheduled to leave and reschedule for anytime in the next year. You have to look at each airline, but there are a ton of deals right now, whether you end up traveling or not, if you’re set on destination or airline might be worth it to buy.

4 weeks out from our wedding airline cancels our roundtrip to Thailand (layover in Beijing). Immediate refund from airline. We re-book to go through South Korea and that gets cancelled 3 weeks out. Sat on hold with Expedia and Delta for minimum of 20 hours in a week. They felt bad for us in the end and refunded all flights associated with our honeymoon (4 flights total including the roundtrip) including the “non-refundable” ones. We booked *today* to go to Punta Cana and Jamaica in 12 days.

Who would have thought that honeymoon destinations would need to be changed. I am glad you were able to make other arrangements.

We are hoping to go to Italy in late September. We haven't booked yet but watching the news from there is heartbreaking.
