Corona affecting wedding

Rae0590, on March 9, 2020 at 4:24 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 16
Hi All!

I’m supposed to be having a wedding come early June. I know my wedding is not the most important thing in the world, however I am concerned. We are supposed to have a local one here in California and one abroad for my fiancées family in Malaysia.
I’m prefacing this and not trying to sound rude, by not asking for advice of if we should cancel or not, but instead where should we possibly look for wedding insurance in case we do need to cancel? In hindsight, I should have don’t it earlier but was definitely not thinking something like this would happen.
Any resources are welcomed so I can shop around. Thanks!

So I’ve seen a few people post about this and I’ve also googled it a little and it seems wedding insurance won’t cover the coronavirus outbreak. I believe it only covers things like weather or major illness or injury to the bride and groom.

I would definitely look into wedding insurance. Though honestly, of course we don’t know how the outbreak will progress but I did read something saying the virus dies in heat, so the odds of the outbreak mellowing when flu season dies down in May/June are pretty good. I hope it works out for you!! (But I’d still look into insurance just in case)

I’ll have to look more into it. Hopefully we’ll be fine, but we’ll see. Thanks!

It’s really awful! I hope we’re able to slow it down at least and I hope your wedding is able to run smoothly. Fingers crossed!

Wedsafe which is a very popular wedding insurance company tweeted this link a couple days ago. So travel insurance may cover your flights but I don’t think it’s possible to be reimbursed for your venue and vendors.

Darn, that is good to know. Most of our vendors are not requiring full payment until the week of so we are just holding off on more payments and continue to monitor. Thanks for the jnfo!

We’ve been looking for insurance as well. Please watch the small print, most don’t protect against an “epidemic”

Oh okay! I’m not planning on traveling anywhere I was just going by that article that if you get the cancel for any reason insurance it might be covered. I know most airlines are waiving change fees right now as well.

The key word is “might be covered” which most likely means it won’t be because it’s an epidemic.
Yes, Airlines are waiving changes, but are destination resorts? I haven’t heard anything on that end.

I have no idea! I’m sure it depends on the country and their current procedures such as all of Italy being on lockdown.

I'm in the same boat– our wedding is in June, in Spain. We were just thinking about wedding insurance as well but it seems like it wouldn't cover much, if anything. We are going to keep researching travel insurance, delay vendor payments as long as possible, and hope that things settle down a bit come May. Hoping the best for you as well!

There's a chance that at this point it won't cover. Make sure you scrutinize anything before purchasing.

The one thing I would recommend taking proactive measures on are your flights to Malaysia - just make sure you don't have scheduled layovers in China or South Korea. There's really only so much you can do and hopefully this all passes by June!

Definitely. We have one in Japan and unfortunately have to switch airports during our layover. So definitely monitoring that and just hoping we get a hold of this thing!
