Cookie Table

OGMary, on March 24, 2016 at 10:38 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 28

We're doing a cookie table at our wedding (it's a Pittsburgh thing if you haven't heard of it) and I'm using the cookies as my favors. For those of you that have done this, did you pre-bag/box the cookies or let guests bag them on their own? I feel like it takes away from the point of the cookie table but I want to make it easy on the guests also.

This is actually a fantastic idea. Could you set out samples of each cookie and then have the rest pre-bagged/boxed?

I'm planning to do this too! I plan to set up the display on plates, etc. and place a pile of take away bags on the table for each guest to select their own. I don't think its too much hassle for guests to place the cookie in the bag.

We're not doing one but I LOVE the cookie table - I went to college in PA and FH is from near Philly so I've been to quite a few weddings with them.

The way I've seen it done is a full table display of cookies with little stacks of bags on the table - the cutest I saw were just smaller brown bakery bags and they put a sticker on each one - then after the cake cutting it's announced as "open" and people put together their own bags.

Whatever you do your guests will LOVE!

My MOH did this a few years ago for her wedding and everyone bagged their own. Easier to avoid any kind of cookie you don't like or that contains allergens (nuts, especially).

In our circle it's called a Sweet Table. Small plates and napkins are used but some people provide bags for takeaway (we did). Not just Pittsburgh (my grandma called it Peets-im-boorgh) Smiley smile

I just recently went to a wedding in Pittsburgh! They had clear boxes set out on the cookie table with personalized labels and let the guests fill them themselves. We are planning a cookie table at our wedding as well to incorporate FH's family being from Pittsburgh!

Those were my thoughts too, especially with allergies... or some people don't like snickerdoodles.... which I find HARD to believe! Who doesn't like sugar cookies with cinnamon???

I thought it'd be cleaner to pre-bag, but you're right about not wanting cookies you don't like in the bag.

If it's going to be like a cookie bar you should definitely let them take their own! You just need to make sure you have enough cookies for each guests to take 1-2 of each flavor (if not more, I love cookies haha)...

I think I may only eat dessert at my own wedding. We're having cupcakes instead of cake, cause I love cupcakes. And then of course the cookie table. Sending guests home with a sugar high... guess that jet lag won't bother them too much!

So separate question... how many types of cookies should I do? I was initially thinking 4, but I know traditionally it's a lot more, but I wanted to keep it as easy and stress free for me, and the family, as possible. I know... don't do one then, right?

@Matt I had thought about milk at one point, but keeping it cool, and dealing with all those with lactose issues just seems like another headache. Hopefully the guests can grab some milk at the hotel when they get back!

Another 'Burgh girl here! I am getting cookie boxes with our names and date on them. We are actually setting them at the place settings in lieu of favors (also having photo both as favors). So everyone will be able to get whichever ones they want. We are having 15-20 different kinds.

@Sarah G that's smart! Wow, 15-20... Is that mostly family recipes? I don't know if I could think up that many if I tried!!

This sounds like so much fun! I think my fiancé and I are doing a candy station, and in that case we are just displaying everything and then having bags for guests to fill. I am pretty sure every candy bar is pretty much like that and it is pretty much the same idea so why not use it for your cookie table too! Is there a way you could possibly have some cookies for display/tasting with empty bags or boxes sitting there and then have some boxed. Do a mic and match kind of thing.

A cookie bar sounds so delicious! As a guest, I would definitely like to choose my own. In order to keep it simple for you and your family while still offering more flavors, maybe you can find different recipes that use the same dough as the base. If you google it, you can find recipes for one dough that makes 5-10 different types of cookies by adding a couple ingredients to the basic dough. Here's an example of one I found.

Love this! We are doing a dessert bar. We are thinking of letting guest graze all night then setting out small boxes at the end of the night to take some home to enjoy.
