Contingency Plan for Dress Not Fitting?

Jennifer, on September 23, 2022 at 7:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
I fluctuate weight really easily, which is honestly awesome for me for building muscle. What I didn’t anticipate is wedding stress taking the better of me and my discipline. I’ve been eating well the past month and I’ve only been lifting weights 2-3x a week instead of 5-6x a week that I usually do and walking 2 miles instead of 4-6. Needless to say, I’ve gained weight between my dress fitting about a month ago and today. A lot of the weight is probably water weight since I’ve been drinking and eating out more. I’m very realistic about weight loss and i know there isn’t much I can do in 2 weeks so my question is, what do I do if my dress really doesn’t fit during my final fitting this Thursday. I probably went from a size 2 to 4. I really don’t want to be uncomfortable and wear a tight dress. Do you all have contingency plans for this? Should I just buy another dress if the one I have doesn’t fit? In hindsight, I should have planned my dress/weight to get what it is closer to the wedding instead of the peak of my cut. 🤦‍♀️

I would think 2 weeks of healthy eating would be a better option than trying to find another dress and have it altered.

If you know much about weight loss, 2 weeks of healthy eating isn’t going to make you lose much weight. Probably water weight but not much of actual fat.

Wouldn't it be enough for you to fit in your dress? You surely didn't gain that much weight since your last alteration appointment.

But, like I said, the odds of finding a dress to purchase and have it altered within a two week period seems like it would be a lot harder than losing a small amount of weight.

If you still have one more fitting, maybe ask to come in one time before that and have her let it out. There’s still time!

Ask your seamstress to let it out as Bird said, or even see if she can make the closure a “corset” style instead. That can add about 5 inches of room since the tightness depends on how hard you pull the strings.

Don’t panic, you have options! If the dress doesn’t fit, evaluate how small it is. If it’s minimal, you can probably get away with just wearing some really great shapewear. If it’s more than shape wear can handle, see if the seamstress can let it out. If there isn’t enough seam allowance, she can change the back to a corset style, which can accommodate several sizes up.

You are right! I do have all these options. I think stress is just getting to me. And idk… this whole wedding dress is triggering some old disordered eating thoughts. Yesterday, I started to use exercise as a “punishment” for not eating as well as I should have the past month. I had bulemic thoughts. I hadn’t had those thoughts in YEARS. I thought I had squashed those thoughts for good and they crept in yesterday :/ It’s really probably not as bad as I think it is and like you said, I have all those options if it really didn’t fit anymore.

Stop lifting for the last 2 weeks. Your back muscles and upper half will relax and make room in the dress. I say this as a weightlifter. You don't need to punish yourself with cardio because that doesn't do much if you're fit, plus it's Triggering. Do stretches or yoga, for stress. Eat clean food, refrain from alcohol and sodium and you'll feel better and less anxious. Your wedding day is meant to be fun and you do not have to feel perfect, just in love.

That's true... I could do that. Haha but I don't want to look "soft". I guess I'll do that though and just focus on bulking after the wedding. I am so tired of making miniscule strength progress with these sub-par calorie intake lol. But, you're right I need to stop with the cardio punishment. Losing water weight is enough for me to fit in that dress I bet so I just need to get back to my regular meal prepping program.
