Considering a Prom Dress?

daymart502, on February 3, 2016 at 10:01 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 24

I'm on a budget, looking for a wedding dress for $500 or less... I'm having trouble finding anything reasonable in bridal shops. I'm curious if anyone has used a white prom dress as a wedding dress. I'm starting to think it's the only way I can afford a dress!

Try azazie.com. Their bridesmaids dresses can be bought in white or ivory. I actually found a dress last night that I would've bought as my wedding dress if I hadn't already bought mine. I got my RD/bridal shower dress for $35 from that site as well.

Look for when shops have sales! Find some in your area and look at them on Facebook they usually have their upcoming sales listed as events on their pages.

I have a pageant dress. I see no problems... This comes in cream, white, green red and black that I've seen. There are tons of options.

Second what others have said. Prom, bridesmaid, and dresses from department stores that come in white shades are all totally doable.

We got our dresses at a wedding consignment store for under $500. But you can also use a white or ivory bridesmaid's dress, prom dress, evening dress, etc. Or it doesn't even need to be white or ivory, if you'd prefer some other color.

I am wearing a formal gown as my wedding dress. Although mine isn't white, they do carry a variety of dresses in white, ivory, and champagne. I don't think there is a problem with it. There aren't any rules that state you have to wear a wedding dress. For a large selection of formal dresses and prom dresses, check out newyorkdress.com. They have a ton of choices and you can find dresses elsewhere once you know the SKU.

I'm leaning towards a BM dress for mine. You can find formal, beautiful BM dresses for under $400.

I paid $200 for my dress off the rack on sale at a local bridal salon. So you can definitely find something 'bridal' on a budget if you look. But prom dresses are totally fine, as long as it looks and feels like your wedding dress!

You can do it! Follow bridal stores in your areas to learn about sales. David's Bridal does a great semi annual sale. Check out wedding consignment stores like fabulousfrocks. And look at prom and pageant dresses. There are many by Jovani and Sherri Hill that can be your wedding dress. Here's an example of a Sherri Hill dress I was considering.

Believe it or not, Target has a Wedding Shop on their website. I don't believe I saw a dress there over $350 and they were all very nice (they are from outside vendors). Free shipping and you can return it to the store if it doesn't work out.

Have you checked local bridal shops that sell on consignment? Most will have never worn samples from other bridal shops that were moving inventory. It can't be ordered to your size, you are limited to what they have. But, you also don't have to order it 6-8 months in advance. My local one told me about 45 days for alterations is all you need. Oh, & my budget is even less than yours, $300.

I tried jorocka's dress on (it's a pageant dress) in white and I almost bought it. It was $500! It looked very bridal.

Thank you all for the excellent advice and recommendations... Lot's of great sites out there! I'd love to stick to a $300 dress to allow some extra budget for alterations, veil, etc... Looking at white or ivory bridesmaid dresses is a great idea!

Also, looks like I need to start subscribing/following local bridal shops to look out for the big sales.

If you have an Impression Bridal by you, I know they have gorgeous evening dresses that can go as bridal. Or even look up sample sales and bridal consignment shops. As a bride to be that found her dress for 99 bucks I'm certain you can find something lovely in your price range

I know I'm late to the party, but Modcloth had some wedding style dresses (long and short). Here's my favorite. . . The best part? If you "favorite" an item and have an account, they'll email you when it goes on sale!
