We've decided to call our "reception," a "Commitment Celebration"....because we're having our reception 3 weeks before our destination wedding in Jamaica. We will be jumping the broom and having a reception program, because this will be the only celebration that extended family and friends will be attending. Some have questioned why we're doing the reception before we're actually married? But, we're not traditional and I don't want to do anything after returning from our wedding/honeymoon.

Yea it does seem a little backwards to have it before hand.... I feel like it would have more sentimental value if you did it after the fact. Not to mention you could share your wedding pictures with your family and friends.

Yeah, I agree... especially since you haven't gotten married yet, that's more like an engagement party really close to the wedding... and think of the nice tan you'll have after the wedding in the pictures.
That being said, it's your party, you can do what you want.
