Coffee- Yay or Nay?

My FMIL is politely insistent of having coffee at the reception. Asked our bartender and they want way too much. Most of my group are not coffee drinkers. Would it be tacky for me to bring a normal coffee maker and make coffee that way? I really don't want to spend extra on coffee when most wont...

The "I've never seen it" comments are hilarious.

Miami2NorthernVA there's an entire thread of people telling you they drink it and expect it at a wedding. Your comment is perplexing.

Coffee service isn't a wedding thing; it's a dinner thing. After dinner, you get coffee and dessert. Eating 101.

You've never seen coffee at a wedding? Have you ever seen a urinal at a wedding? Doesn't mean they weren't there. Just means you never asked for it. It's standard to offer coffee with dessert.

Put me in the "never been to a wedding without coffee" category. I drink coffee at every wedding during dessert, because I love coffee, and because it's nice to have in between many alcoholic beverages.

Maybe people don't go out for dinner.

If we haven't seen it then we haven't seen it. No big deal. Not sure what's so hilarious about it...

I'm a coffee addict, but only in the mornings. Personally, I wouldn't get a cup of coffee. Also, I'm not having coffee at my wedding (the thought didn't even cross my mind).

Uh yeah, coffee and dinner/cake is totally a thing. If you haven't seen it you probably weren't looking. Most weddings I have been to the servers offer it to you or people just ask for it-coming from the kitchen and not the bar. OP, when I was in the beginning stages of planning I noticed that vender for linen rental/china etc had a restaurant quality coffee maker and carafe available. Maybe look into that and have the coffee kept in the kitchen and ask your servers about it? Maybe the bartender just doesn't want to deal with it.

Many of our venues we've looked at include coffee and tea as part of the meal, or you can add on a "coffee cart" station. Some people may like it as dessert or to help them wake up after a couple drinks. I'd see if it fits in your budget if it's that important to FH.

We are having coffee at ours and estimating that 75% of guests may want it on the safe side...caterer is only charging us 1.65 per person which includes coffee, cream, milk, and sugar...I can't imagine it being more than 2-3$ per person
