Coffee- Yay or Nay?

My FMIL is politely insistent of having coffee at the reception. Asked our bartender and they want way too much. Most of my group are not coffee drinkers. Would it be tacky for me to bring a normal coffee maker and make coffee that way? I really don't want to spend extra on coffee when most wont...

I call serious "where do you live" on anyone saying that coffee isn't mandatory with dessert.

Kureig coffee tastes like shit and is INSANELY environmentally unfriendly and would require someone to physically go get it.

    no- just NO.

I would ask exactly how much. Basic coffee service for us was a drop in the bucket of the budget. It should be minimal.

I don't like coffee but it is a standard part of the dessert course. I've never been to a wedding much less a restaurant that didn't offer coffee.

I'm seriously curious about that too, A.L. Not having coffee would be like...I don't even know...not having forks? I am honestly kind of amazed that there would be anywhere in the US where it wasn't a foregone conclusion.

Put me under the category of have rarely seen coffee at a wedding. Maybe because I am not looking for it? My caterer asked if I wanted the service and I asked my FMIL and mom if any of them or family members would be upset and they said no so not doing it. Since your FMIL will be upset I would look into getting it delivered.

"I refuse to pay for some that will go to waste" - how do you know it will go to waste? Coffee is literally one of the most popular beverages on the planet. I have never seen it go to waste at a gathering like a wedding (or any other gathering such as a funeral, baptism, etc). It's a standard beverage choice. It would be strange not to have it available.

Many people enjoy coffee or tea after dinner, especially with dessert. I would look into delivery options from a Starbucks, Dunkin or Panera.

We have Keurigs for the classes that my department holds - and it only took 5 people, in a row, to make the Keurig basically flip out and shut down. Keurigs are not meant to function in a one-after-the-other-after-the-other type fashion. They're just not.

Aside from speaking to your bartender, have you gotten a quote from anyone? "It's expensive" is a subjective statement - $300 to you might be too expensive or $1500 might be too expensive. You need to hear a solid number first and then figure out a plan from there.

And the whole no coffee at the end of the meal thing? Yeah, no - coffee always is offered with dessert. I would venture to say 85% of restaurants offer coffee/espresso/tea with their dessert menu. They mightttt be onto something - just saying.

Yes coffee is standard at a wedding. I think you'd be surprised how many people drink it. Good coffee (not a pot) should be provided.

That's interesting. Usually coffee and tea are included in the price when you select your food. I think that she will live if she doesn't have 1 cup of coffee that evening. If you have a tight budget then opt out but if you can include it somehow then do it, but don't make your own. You definitely don't want to be worrying about that.

At business meetings I've seen Starbucks or Einstein Brothers catered coffee. They look like big eco-friendly jugs of coffee that have a dispenser. Look into that

Where I live maybe they do have coffee at weddings...SC/NC. But I have never noticed it at any of the many weddings I have attended. Personally, one venue I looked at did offer coffee, but I know my guests and doubt they will be expecting it. Different strokes for different folks. It's just a matter of your guest preference. If it's usually a requirement for your invited guests, have coffee

This is a weird thread....maybe because both my and FH's families are huge coffee drinkers. I seriously have an aunt who drinks 5+ cups a day....My initial package didn't have it. So I had my caterers add it in for everyone, even if people just want a small cup to go with the cake.

So another vote to just pay your bartender to handle it.

That's odd. Coffee and tea are usually included with the soft drinks, didn't think it would cost extra.

I look forward to coffee with wedding cake at weddings. And it gives you a second wind for dancing for the latter part of the reception.
